aftermarket wheel offset for stock height 2010 fit and stock tires

Ok so my height is stock, and I am trying to keep the stock tires which are 185/55/16, and I've searched and searched this forum and haven't seen one tire mention of the stock size, everything I've read about has 195's and higher....I am trying to figure out if I can put 16/7 4x100 aftermarket wheels with 38 or 40 offset on the factory tires that came with my 16x6 oem alloys. I have already sold my wheels that are ON my car....and need to order my new ones asap but I don't want get something that will rub. Please help!!

Stickwith 45 mm minimum offset. The only way you can use 40 mm is with narrow tires and OF LESS DIAMETER, say 23" instead of 24".

Here's a quick check.
tape some 5/8" foam gaskets in 1" pieces in 3 or 4 places around the stock tire at the tread corner and see if the car will roll without tearing the foam pieces off the tire. Jump up and down on the door sills to aspproximate tire movement on driving. If you can't do that you'll rub.
We have found here that any stock height tire when pushed out with offset by more than 1/2" (12.5 mm) will have rubbing issues.

ok so what is worst case scenario if I do try to use those? I haven't found ANY that I like for my bolt pattern in anything but 38 and 40.....will they rub, stick out, look funny, screw up my speedo? What will happen? Other than void some of my warranties....My issue is I sold my oem alloys from the fit in order to be able to even afford to get aftermarkets, but I specifically want 16s so I don't have to change my stock tires.....(again, can't afford tires, esp when the car itself is only a few months old and doesn't NEED tires..) Thanks!

A set of aftermarket wheels won't void warranty. 185 won't fit a 7 inch tire you will need 195 and up for a 7 inch wheel

So the wheels will work fine if I get the 195 on up tire? Ok...well seeing as how I've already ordered the wheels and they're not returnable guess I'll have to spring for the tires....pooh.....they're gonna look SWEEEEEEET though....so I'll have to fuss up and buy 'em....damn LOL

195 with a high sidewall 55 should mount without problems on a 7 inch wide rim...a lower profile tire 40 series probably won't mount right

Did you check tireRack specs to see if 185 fits 7" rim?

Did you check tirerack specs to see what recommended rim widths are for any tire? you should.

You want to mount 195/40 series on a 16-17x7 inch rim go ahead. But when you hit that manhole/train track and your tire blows that's fine with me it's your car.

We have 2 fits out of this shop with 195/40x17 tires and in almost 2 years and 20k miles not a problem including numerous track days each. As long as the rim width doesn't really exceed the tread width you are fine. as far as rough ride if my wife doesn't object it can't be bad; she,s put up with a lot of comp suspensions but with continual complaints. And no, shes not getting used to it. Maybe its her age. oops, don't tell her I said that.

185's will fit a 7 inch wide wheel, jus a little stretch. I ran stock tire size on 16x7 +38 for a while on stock ride height with no rubbing at all.

Ok so I just decided to call Big O....and they said there would be no problem at all running my stock tires (185/55/16) on the 16x7 wheel/38 mm offset....and they're gonna charge $65 to take off my OEMs and put on the new ones, which unbeknownst to me they are scheduled for UPS ground delivery TODAY!!! Originally they weren't supposed to be here until tomorrow...yay me! I called into work today so that couldn't have worked out more perfectly.

Was your ride any rougher? Not that a Fit has a super smoothness anyway.....I do mostly highway driving.....and that is exactly the specs I'll be running....and no plans to lower....so hopefully I'll be good...

And yes, it IS my car.....seems that everyone has their opinion and that is fine.....I will stick to facts thanks.

I ran my stock tires on 16X7 +40 for a while. You'll be fine at stock height. I rubbed, but only because I was lowered. Your tire won't be super stretched either, so I doubt you have to worry much about a blowout. Will effect ride quality minimally if at all, but probably not at all noticeable.

I may have missed it, but what wheels did you get?

Good luck.

Thanks! They came yesterday and gettin ready to take them down today to have them put on-they're BWT black Mirages (black and machined), there is a pic of them under my albums (still new to forum and having issues with posting pics on general posts LOL) or I'd just post them here. I can't wait!!!!
