Help!! I broke my wife's Fit!
 

I bought my wife a 2009 Fit Sport Automatic last year and we love it. I've made a number of easy mods, (billet grille) (horn upgrade), nothing too crazy as I'm not very mechanically inclined. Last week, my wife's GPS was stolen out of her car (she forgot to lock the doors) and so today I was installing her new GPS. I was running the power cable underneath the dash and up the trim to keep it out of sight, like the old one.

The only problem, was the cable was a bit short, so I had to tug and pull on it a bit to make it stretch. After I installed and tested it, everything worked fine, so I leave and lock it like I normally do.

However, the horn didn't honk. Low and behold, the keyfob no longer locks the car. It still UN-locks the car, but it no longer locks it. I spent some time trying to trace the problem and figure out how to take the plastic covering off so I can access the wires back there easier, but no luck, and now its too dark to work.

Has anyone ever run into this before? How did you fix it? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm sure I just jiggled a wire loose somewhere, but I can't even figure out how to access the area underneath this big plastic piece under the dash. I have to get this fixed soon, because if I don't, my wife will forget to lock the car (again) and we'll have more stuff stolen out of our car. I HATE :mad: :mad: :mad: thieves.

Disconnect the power lead to the gps and see if that helps w/ the other probs.GL

The GPS power cord wasn't hard-wired. I simply ran the cigarette lighter power cord underneath the dash and up the trim. I have since completely removed the GPS system from the vehicle. That was the first thing I did.

what about the other key fob? Does it do the same? (this would rule out the fob being the issue).

OP, if I can recommend a hardwire solution (to avoid having to stretch cables). anyone can do it as it is VERY easy. Check out the link in my sig about my V1 (valentine 1) hardwired solution. will explain how to hardwire any device (that has a hardwire solution)

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the second keyfob doesn't lock the doors either. I'm 100% sure its the car and not the keyfob.

I also hardwired my Passport 8500 radar detector shortly after I bought the car. Unfortunately, Garmin GPS systems cannot be hardwired (to my knowledge).

hmmm maybe time for a trip to the dealer. The only thing I can think of is maybe check all of the fuses associated with door locking & the horn to make sure nothing there popped. (In theory it wouldn't be a fuse because the doors unlock but... you never know).

Well I'm trying to avoid a dealer trip. Money is tight during the holiday season and it just makes me sick to have to pay for someone else to fix my mistake.

This might be stating the obvious but... have you made sure all the doors are securely closed? The keyfob won't lock the doors if any of them are open (or it thinks any of them are open). You could also sit in the car with all the doors closed, make sure the "door open" indicator lamp is out, and try locking the doors with the fob.

If that's not the problem, you could try disconnecting the battery for a few seconds (make sure you have the radio code before you do this though, because the radio won't work until you put the code in). If you don't want to do that, you could try pulling the fuses for the alarm and door locks and seeing if that works...

^ yea if you haven't already done so, i'd suggest checking all the doors, trunk, and the hood are closed. if the hood isn't completely closed, it won't let you lock the car by remote either.

it's the simplest possible cause of your problem

maybe you snagged a wire that runs to the doors... to be precise, a wire that's used for the "door's open" indicator.

my guess is, when the doors are closed, it completes a circuit that the system checks before locking the doors. if a wire gets loose, it will never complete.

the hand brake has a similar wire attached, i noticed it when i pulled out the console to add the center armrest. This wire triggers the DRLs.

i'm not sure if this applies, as i don't have a fit, but:

when you lock the car with the key fob, does the little pin on the door move?

my family's cr-v had a locking issue one time, it would unlock, but not lock. it was a little black box inside the door (forgot exactly what it was, it's not bigger than your hand though) that was broken. it was a quick fix, less that 50 dollars for the part and labor (we know a mechanic).

Check the fuses. Use the owners manual to identify fuses.

There is a 10 amp fuse that controls that stuff. I have blown it.

it's more out of sight, than on the dash or windshield. I've heard so many stories of people getting their GPS's stolen and they were all clearly visible on the Dash or Windshield..

the only downside is you lose the functionality of those two cup holders.. but there is plenty to spare.

Did you check the fuse to the cigarette lighter yet? What was the outcome?
