You'd think I was the only one!

The only one with a Fit that is!

I just came back form the mall and not only were people staring at my Fit, but pointing and obviously talking about it (and no, I had run over toilet paper or something). At one point, I came out of the store and I had 2 seventeen year old kids standing next to the car and could hear them saying how they really liked the car.

When I was leaving, there were two people in a ~1993 Civic looking and discussing my car and they waved me to go in front of them because it was apparent they wanted to see the rear of the Fit too.

I didn't know we were this cool!!

:D

I see many more Fits in my area recently, and on my short street there are now 3 of them, I seem to have started a trend. It certainly isn't bland, to its credit- For a car that has its flaws, isn't exactly cheap, has plenty of competitors, and is barely advertised, I'd say it is a runaway hit. People of all ages like it; I was ambivalent about the style at first but it is growing on me.

One of the first days I drove my Fit (got it on 11/22) I went through a drunk check at midnight. The cop was asking what kind of car it was. He thought it was a hybrid of some sort. I said no,it's a Honda Fit. I took a but for him to register what I was saying. He was in awe,and then saw a line behind me so he told me to go ahead.

We were stopped at the border crossing into Matomoros as our Fit was surrounded by rough looking men in uniforms and carrying guns.... They just wanted to check out the car. There weren't many around in August 2006.

There's a ton of Fits in the Chicagoland area, but I had one guy comment on the color of my car and asked about the mileage, that's the number one question I get and I tell them, much better than the sticker says and they really like that:cool:

Is your car stock? Hell, in Austin I've joined some Fit trains on the highway we got so many of them. Everyone still asks me if it's a hybrid though. I guess that's a good thing.

I think the Fit's styling, sans the tail lights, rival every other subcompact on the road, and judging by even some new concept drawings I've seen for upcoming plans from Toyota and the like, I still think the Fit blends in well with future directions, especially if Honda decides to dress up the front with some swank headlights, or something a little more up to date.

Fits are getting pretty common place round here too. I'd say I spot one almost every outing. You can't keep a great car from catching on for long. But even though the days of it being novel are pretty much over, it still draws looks and admiration....from me included.

LOL my wife gets the same questions all the time, I can wait to get my own.

milanojazz Dec 25, 2010 01:16 PM

man you guys are lucky I get no comments, no love, and I'm the only person under 60 that drives one.

Texas Coyote Dec 25, 2010 03:07 PM

Some of the guys over 60, or at least 1 I know of, can go from 0 to 60 in there old Fits faster than the majority of younger Fit owners... I finally saw someone in their 20s driving in the town closest to me last week.. His chrome plated wheels were huge..

LLLC1393 Dec 30, 2010 12:39 PM

I was at the car wash today. An older gentleman inside the waiting areas was commenting on a Nissan Cube Krom and saying how small it was. Oddly it was being driven by a noticeably older man, seems a little odd to me. I said how small can they go,or something like that. I said "look at mine". His reply "Electric?". My car is nice and shiny, free of salt for a few minutes.

It's funny that the Fit is one of the best selling cars in the world, but here in one of the biggest automotive markets it's relatively unknown. I've been asked what it is before, too, and when I first got it some of the people I know had never heard of it before. Good job Honda N.A. Advertising Team!

Most people are ignorant about cars anyways, especially when it comes to imports. I'm kind of glad the Fit is still at a stage where it's still more rare and unique than say, the Civic. It makes the car stand out in a crowd.

It seems that, now that I have one, I seem to notice more of them than I used to - even the older GD-series seems more common all of a sudden.

Of course, if we start seeing $4+/gallon again, we might see a whole lot more of them on the road.

Texas Coyote Dec 30, 2010 06:18 PM

I had mine almost 2 years before I saw another one around here.

That's something I've notice whenever I "think" about whatever vehicle I drive.

For example, the Mitsubishi Mirage (aka Lancer)... before my dad bought one from a body shop, I never noticed the car on the road before, even though I knew about the Evo.

When I borrowed the Pathfinder, I started noticing that SUV and it's twin, the Infinity QX4.

I knew about the Jazz, because it got mentioned in an episode of Top Gear (GD chassis)... But didn't even realize it was available in the US until a week or two before the 2010 models were arriving at dealerships, THEN I started seeing both GDs and GEs "everywhere" (though SUVs are still massive majority around here).

Texas Coyote Dec 30, 2010 10:47 PM

I read about them in March 2006 saying they would start being imported in late April, started trying to find one in late May and finally found one with M/T on July 14th... I picked it up without having ever seeing one that evening.
