I'm trading in my 2009 Fit...
...for a 2012 Fit
I had my fair-to-good condition 2009 Sport MT with 79,XXX miles valued at $9300 so I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a Polished Metal 2012 Sport MT. My payments will stay the same if I toss in a $1500 down payment.
yeahyah!

Uh, the new car smell? lol
Seriously though... it seems like a smart investment as my Fit has taken a beating from my usage and it shows. I have all sorts of cosmetic issues ranging from typical paint flaws to dents from roof rack damage, etc.
When the dealer valued it at $9300 I was impressed, especially after a trip to craigslist shows 2009 Fits for sale privately for $10k with 30,000 miles on them!
I have also switched jobs and so I can baby a new car much more than I could when I bought the 2009.

I thought about selling it on my own briefly but I doubt I would get much more than $9300. The KBB private-party value is $9250 in fair condition. So yeah, my boat is floating. Oh yeah and I can buy the 2012 below invoice.
Don't bother - few people realize how troublesome it is to sell a used car on your own. If you can get a decent trade-in, that's almost always easier than the time/effort/etc with a private sale, plus its far easier to just pick up the new car and hand the keys in for the old one.
Plus for a car with higher mileage, in not so great condition, its an even harder DIY sell. I've never seen the Fit here being as hot an item as people claim.
For OP - its not a bad move if you want a new car, but are you sure you want another Fit with really not much new except cosmetics and sound insulation? It might be time to make the move to something else you might really want... instead of constantly taking a bath every 3 years in depreciation as you move on to the next new car.

new car smell? get some air fresheners with that scent (I'm sure it's out there).
Bumper/wheel/sound insulation "upgrade"? buy the parts yourself.
Aside from the wheels, you could probably do ALL of the rest for less than $1500.
The ONLY thing you probably can't do is the VSA (or at least, not cheaply enough).
If you're gonna sell/trade it in for another Fit, at least make it worthwhile... wait for the next chassis.
Personally, I wouldn't sell/trade it at all, unless you can find me a mint condition Lambo Diablo, or a new Aventador for the same price! yeah right, plus I probably wouldn't fit in them anyway.
Enjoy the 2012!
I'm mixed on this. 79K on the odo isn't high for a honda but there are some benefits. By trading, instead of selling private party, you get out of the vehicle really easily AND don't have to pay for $9300 worth of Tax on the new car (about $550) that you would have had to pay. You also won't have to worry about the 90K or 100K service which is usually expensive (We traded our Altima for the Fit at just around 30K and the 30K service was a $500 service. Total, I paid $90 in tax on the vehicle because of the trade instead of close to $1000 and saved $500 because I traded before the Service.)
Remember you are also upgrading to VSA standard, have brand new tires (not sure when you last replaced them. You regain warranty on the vehicle, and also get one that has a few new standard features.
The down side is that you are going to continue to have payments... If you can afford to pay 20% more each month, you'll be out of it that much sooner without having to pay the interest on that 20%.

backup,
Do what you want, I think its a great idea. I just bought another new Fit because I wanted one for a winter car. car payments are never a good idea but if you can afford it, go for it.
I buy lots of cars and people on forums never make the decision for me!!

I threw a deposit at them and ordered one. It's gonna be a couple months to get the one I want but that's not an issue. Peace of mind that no one has test driven it is worth it.
