Phrancis as far as I know, that is true in the entire US. My Mom and a good friend recently tried to buy used cars and they were actually going to cost more per month than a new one once you factor in interest rate specials on new ones and the shorter term recommended if you're buying used. I would not personally want to buy a 3 year old car and finance it for 5 years. You end up making payments on an 8 year old car by then end.

My Mom ended up with a Fit Sport AT and the friend bought a Mazda 3 skyactive. So far, both are very happy and have brand new cars with full warranties.

If you find an 09 with navi and it's not too pricey, I'd grab it. I got my sport without navi and to this day I wish I had. Third party navi trumps it yes, but an integrated stock navi is good too- especially if you don't need all the bells and whistles. Just sayin- if the price is right, get a navi- my opinion. Also my opinion, without a doubt get the sport model. Cruise alone makes it a no brainer.

I would go for the Sport. The sound package is definitely a step up, and the look in my opinion is much better.

Thanks.
Not to sound pretentious, but I would type "how to buy a used car" into google and start reading. Get info from many sources and filter out what seems to be the common tips. There are various guides such as from edmunds.com. There is nothing specific to the Fit about that question.

That being said, agree with the other posters that you should consider taking a look about buying new (google how to buy a new car too).

The Fit is already an economy car with a relatively low purchase price new. There is less and less savings to be had when the new price is low (at least compared to a $30,000 car).

MT=More Thrills

I cannot overemphasize how much better the manual is over the auto. The dealer gave me an '09 Sport with an auto when I took mine in for the recall work. The difference was dramatic. It seemed like 20 hp had been stolen. The paddle shifters are mostly pointless. It was a totally different car.

The Fit's shifter is amazingly slick, and I frequently forget I'm only working with 117 hp. As others have written, the other Sport upgrades are indeed worth it, regardless of transmission choice.
