2012 side air bag off light, anyone with this problem?

hi,

Sometimes when I'm driving uphills or downhills, perhaps uneven roads, the SIDE AIRBAG OFF light(YELLOW,on the instrument cluster) would light up, then it goes away after a few seconds. This has happened a few times already. I have 1000+miles on it now.

does anyone have this problem? Is this common on the FIT?
thanks

There is a proximity sensor that disables the side airbag if something is too close to the door (like someone sleeping leaned over...). I've never had it turn off (turning on the warning light) unless someone was passed-out over there. I have no idea how it works (magic?). If you have a back-pack or something on the passenger seat, it might mistake this for a dead body.

Might be a dealer service issue.

I'd imagine that a sensor in the passenger side seat is out of adjustment. One sensor turns off the front airbag if the seat belt is latched, but the seat sensor reads that a lightweight passenger is in the seat. Another turns off the side curtain airbag if a sensor indicates that a sleeping passenger pushing on the outboard side of the seat. I'd have the Honda dealer take a look at it.

hi, thanks for the reply.come to think of it I had a light-weight passenger in the front seat the past few times the Side airbag off light came on, but only for a few seconds mostly Going up the hill/ramp or down the hill/ramp only. on flat roads it is fine. weird.

Tell them to sit straight and hold on! I think it's working correctly.

It flickers on sometimes with my very small wife sitting in the passenger seat.
It never stays on, just blinks/flickers.

If I leave my window open when it rains it can play havoc with the light for a little bit but then its fine

Looks like your passenger is right on the fence for being under/over the programmed weight limit, so being on an incline/decline is enough of a weight shift to trip out the computer.

YEP, ITS A SAFETY FUNCTION. if a passenger is less than X lbs, then its dangerous for a bag to hit them, it would actually cause more harm than good. so if your passenger/backpack/whatever is near that threshold, weight shifting with the g forces in the car (turns, hills, crests, ect) changes the amount of weight on the sensor causing the bag to turn on and off

So does anyone else have the problem with the SRS warning light coming on once in a while? I have experienced this exact same issue (as White_Fit_2012) with my 2012 Fit Sport. My passengers, when it does occur, are in the range of 100 lbs. My Honda dealer can't find anything wrong -- i.e. no codes are being recorded --- although I have picture proof of the occurrence(s).

Has anyone managed to get a response or actions taken by Honda? I think this is a safety issue so I am going to try and pursue it some how. Any suggestions?
