Hey guys, just got myself a new to me 2010 Sport on Monday from a local dealer!

My last daily was an E36 BMW M3 that I loved quite a bit, but was pushing 200k and getting a little impractical for a daily. I read good things about Fits, so I checked one out. Despite having literally half the displacement of the M3 I was impressed by the fits ability to get moving, and light, neutral handling, especially after also owning a tC :rolleyes:

I'm from the south shore of MA, and not that big into the local tuning scene, but I wind up at shows and meets and cruises once in a while.

Sooo here I am! I've been lurking for a few weeks now and finally signed up and started posting earlier this week when I took my Fit home. So I thought I would come in and introduce myself :D

heh, you'd be surprised actually. It was more of a death by 1000 papercuts for me. Just lots of little things going wrong, and was a sole car daily (had 2 cars, had to give one to the fiancee). The motor and all the big parts were fantastic. The final straw was the clutch slave cylinder, which compared to the Fit is remarkably easy to service! I was about to fix it and realized that worse things were probably on the horizon, so it was time to update.

That said, if I didn't have to rely on it to get to work, and I had place to store more cars, I would still have it!

You made a smart choice. Having had my Fit (an '09) for about a year, purchased almost new with 15k on her, now at almost 30k, it's still a great ride. I'd buy it if I had to do it over again. Great mileage, no bad habits, simple servicing, and the best friends here to hang with.

Already into doing some personalization, switching out most of the bulbs for LEDs. One of the first mods was adding a screen inside the front bumper lip. There's a big enough gap that large objects may get tossed up and punch thru your A/C condenser......hmmmm, $800, not good:eek: Cost to put screen in ~$12:D! I got lucky, a chunk of someone's busted headlight had already made it thru, but luckily dodged the bullet on that one!

Also got rid of the chinese moped horn, and got some serious noise with a Stebel Nautilus compact air horn. I may actually attract attention now if it needs to be applied to someone's driving habits :D.

If I really had to be picky, one minor issue is an A/T accumulator noise, which is a known issue, but not harmful. Possibly just a funky sound which happens during a 2-3 shift due to a pressure relief. Doesn't affect driveability, replaced ATF, no particles. If it ever turns out to be anything, I paid for the 200k extended warranty via CarMax. $200 deductible for any repair, but I doubt I'll be needing it. Hondas are legendary for reliability, and this one looks to be as good as the rest.

Better china then Detroit.

Probably the best thing is getting 41 mpg on the display from cruising @ 65-70 on a hiway trip!

Welcome! I too bought the Fit for similar reasons. The Fit literally has 1/3 the power of my GS (330) but it does not seem under powered to me at all.

Ironically I too came from an E36 M3 (99 Cosmos 5sp Coupe). Mine was high mileage as well (173,000) but ran tip top. Decided on the Fit because I wanted something more economical, something that I could put on the zero maintanance plan, and something I could haul all my Karting stuff in. Swtiched from AutoX/HPDE in my M3 to Kart racing so the M3 became un-necessary. I get my racing fix on the Kart so it's easy to enjoy the MPG, utility and practicality that the FIT offers.

I hear you on the thousand papercuts. The drivetrain on those cars are rock solid even at 200,000+ mi, but all the little things will nickle and dime you to death over time. I miss the noise the most, the S52 is really a sweet sounding motor.

The E39 is one of the best looking BMW's ever made! I would like to buy a 540i Sport 5 speed. Nice M5!

yup, if I ever get another BMW it will be a tough choice between another M3 or save up my pennies for an M5 :D

I've never heard an S54 up close, but from the looks of it, the S54 was similar to a S52 but with a better designed head. The S52 was really dumbed down for the US market. The euro spec S52 made about as much power as the US S54 :(

glad to see theres some other bimmer guys that came to the fit one way or another, now i know im not crazy

have any of you guys messed around with the fit's suspension? in some of the spring etc threads ive seen the term "european handling" thrown around. I'd love the input from those that have actually drove a european car

I haven't messed with the fit at all. We have put 116k on our fit in about 32 months...it's really just a workhorse.

I may replace the shocks in it, though, cause you can really feel it, but I need to decide whether we will keep this for another 116k, or move into something else. Leaning towards keeping it....heck, it's only needed front brakes outside of fluids and filters and tires.
