12 manual fit sport oil smells like gas
changed the oil because it smelled like gas and was over filled, immediately it smells like gas again very strong. Changed to 93 octane gas before changing the oil, still the same, if this even a problem? my car has 12k miles on it and i drive a lot, 80% highway no short trips really car always warms up (the cold symbol disappears)

order a kit from here, should arrive in the mail in a few days: they send you the kit for free but the analysis is like 20-30 bucks i believe.

I use them regularly for my vehicles as do many people on BITOG.

It will tell you if you are having excessive dilution of your oil from the gas, which is why you should care about oil smelling like gas.

It tells you if your oil change interval is ok wrt time, wear, etc. It can pick up head gasket leaks before there's real damage. There's really no reason not to do it.

You don't have to do it regularly, but in this instance, it will help confirm your suspicion of the oil smelling of fuel. If you let your car idle a lot (a la remote starter) it will return higher fuel dilution...

above posts both have good points.
If you get an UOA, then what did you get for your $30.
1) It tells you there's no problem, so your nose is just too sensitive and all this was for nothing but piece of mind.
2) It tells you you have some fuel, and your nose is on the mark, but then what. is that normal or abnormal? who do you compare it to.
I would say, pcv valve would be what I would look replace, especially if you're taking it for highway trips, the engine should be burning off all whatever gas vapors made it into the crankcase.
Only thing working against that theory is this is a new car and the PCV valve should be working OK.
I dunno what to say, take the issue up as warranty and see what dealer says if it still bothers you. Chad says his also smells, so maybe it's just normal.

ya ill just watch the oil level closely and bring it up to the dealer to see if theres anything worth knowing, who knows at most I think they would just re-flash the ecu. If my level rises however, thats when ill take it more seriously, i guess as long as the level is constant there really cant be that much dilution can there?

I only change my oil once a year. I used to use Blackstone every single time with my previous cars, and the TBN reporting helped me determine how often to change the oil with my usage. According to the reports I can go just over a year.
