Want to have HD radio - what are my options?
I know, HD radio is kind of passe, but our local NPR station broadcasts a lot of great stuff on their HD signal that you can't get anywhere else (BBC, etc). Since the radio is integrated into the dash on the Fit (base, 2010), do I have any other options? Is there any kind of an under-dash adapter that will work with this radio?

your best bet is to get an aftermarket head unit. it'll have bluetooth, HD Radio, and many other features as well as much better quality sound than the stock Head Unit. It'll likely only be a small percentage more than buying an HD Radio Add-On.
What's your Budget? Check out Crutchfield.com for Head Units. They provide all of the adapters and dash replacement pieces to make a radio fit(they also include instructions and are authorized resellers of everything they sell so manufacturer's warranties aren't voided like many other places). PM me if you go this route as I'll give you a referral code (which should get you a few bucks off - but I think you have to spend $200 or more) Edit - this one has HD Radio, Bluetooth, and is similar to a radio I am looking at (I Don't need HD Radio but want android Control) http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWHR...T.html?tp=5684 ~SB |
I don't know other options but for under $300, you can get HD, so many features, and MUCH better sound w/ an aftermarket unit, as noted above. I'm glad I did it.

@specboy - thanks for that info. So the unit you linked can be made to totally replace the factory radio and the dash mount?? Assume that's the "head unit" you're talking about (sorry, I'm new to the Fit community, so I don't know the lingo!)??

If you go w/ Crutchfield yes, but it doesn't match perfectly. There are threads here to help you adapt the OEM navi dash to a new hu, which does match perfectly. I went w/ the latter option, and did the JDM hazzard button while in there.

Ursenay Picture of a wiring harness: Receiver Wire Harness For select 1998-up Honda, Acura, and Suzuki vehicles at Crutchfield.com My longer "Drawn-out" explanation may make it sound a bit complicated but it really is easy and crutchfield's tech support is free and well experienced. if you are new at this and have never soldered, I'd go with a crimp tool and some butt splices which make it even easier (available at any hardware store). if you have a friend that is decent with electronics, even better. We're also always here for help and there are a number of DIY (Do it yourself) installs with pictures that people have done on this board. ~SB |
