Cut and program key

Good morning FF, newby here who's been a lurker and finally bought the wifey a used 2009 Sport Fit. The car did not come with a second key so I bought one from Ebay. How much did someone get their key cut and programmed to their car? Dealers are charging me from $104 to $113 and is that about right? Thank you.

Around here they are the same using their key, ebay keys on close inspection are made a little different, one I bought for 5 wasn't 3 layers and I don't know if it has the electronic part in it, dealer used his key to make the spare, no charge unless I wanted it programmed. Only using it to unlock wheel for towing, starts car but immediately shuts down for antitheft.

Two years ago I was quoted $60 by Ed Voyles Honda in Atlanta. You might try a locksmith. I think they've wised up and have the software and cables to do it.

We can cut your key and the charge is only $ 8.00 we will still need the car to add to the set up or program it to the other keys that you have. If you do not program it ,it will not start the car it will open the doors but won’t start. The program charge is 52.50 plus the 8.00 total would be 60.50.

Thanks for the suggestions and definitely worth trying a locksmith if they can do it.

Wifey thinks its not necessary to have a spare since she don't loss keys, my reply was "you haven't own a car long enough to loss a key" and she turned to this  :rotfl:

At my dealer we will not even cut eBay keys anymore. We only charge half an hour to program the key which would be $46.00. I think most places charge a full hour for it which, in my opinion, is robbery. It never hurts to have a spare.

I would guess that its only about 1/2 hour to program the key and our dealerships around here wants $104-113. I'm thinking of just getting it cut and not program it and use it as door unlocking key. I'll let the wife fall flat on her face when she losses/locked her programed key ;).
