10.7 gallons into a 10.6 gallon tank?
 

Pushing the limits today on a road trip trying to find to cheapest top tier gas. Pushed it until the needle was right on the last blue mark at the 'E'. Pumped 10.7 gallons of gas! Fuel light had only come on about 20 miles on so before. That was too close, not doing that again. :D

Gas station is cheating you with inaccurate flow meter. :/

Did you top off the tank? The tank is under the drivers seat, so there is a channel from the tank opening to where the tank is that could probably hold some gas beyond tank capacity.

Some gas statiosn cheat, i found one near my house i managed to squeeze in 5.8 gallons in my Honda VFR800 that has a 5.5gal tank that wasn't even empty yet.

10.6 something and i was basicly spilling out lol

I fill to the top of the filler tube.. I've put over 13 gallons of fuel in my 2007 GD3 more times than I can count...

That number is just what the tank is rated to. Doesn't mean it can't hold more. My dad's Mustang is rated at around 14, but he can easily put 15 in it.

Impressive!!! I got 11.3 in there once...

Probably the filler tube was the extra capacity. The Fit was pointing downhill at the pump.

Whenever I run the tank down enough to light the "low fuel" warning light, I can put as much as 13 gallons into the tank. The most that I recall putting into my '07 GD3, was 13.68 gallons.

The tank may be 10.6, but you're forgetting everything else that has fuel in it.

While that maybe true, you gotta remember he's not doing a dry fill, he still has fuel in it. How does Honda rate the fuel capacity? 75% of actual volume or what? :confused:

In this endless discussion on the forums, no one has posted an answer to your question. A lot of people have warned, needlessly, that you "should never continue to fill after the nozzle has clicked off". Crap. As macbuddy posted, the tank and filler hose combination can hold much more than the Honda-stated capacity. I never wait until I get the low fuel warning, and usually fill when the gauge reads about 1/2. I always fill past the click-off point of the filler nozzle, and always get at least 8 gallons with a new fill at 1/2 full on the gauge. This was my practice with my '07 Fit, and has been such with my '09 Fit since I bought it in 2008. All of the warnings about the dire consequences of filling past the first click of the pump are total nonsense. I personally wish that Honda had equipped the Fit with a 15 gallon tank.

Does it take that much imagination to realize that some expansion room is needed or seals may be compromised, the evaporative controls may be flooded?

I completely agree with you on this. The car manufacturers tell you to stop pumping gas into your car when it clicks off. There needs to be room for expansion in the system.

Sorry folks. In six years of Fit ownership and driving, there have been zero problems related to my filling methods. Believe whatever you want. I obviously need fewer fill-ups than you do. I don't park my car within 10 feet of filling at the pump, and drive at least 10 miles after each fill. The "expansion room" is eliminated by the drive home from the pump. But keep on frothing at the mouth if you like- makes no difference to me. Knock yourselves out.

filling @ 1/2 tank means you're hitting the pumps almost twice as often as me.

(I never heeded the dire don't let the low fuel light come on warnings. But then, Honda doesn't issue this warning...)

You are confused- there is no such warning from Honda or anyone else. The "dire warning" that I quoted comes from people like you who don't want Fit owners to fill past the first click on the pump fill valve. Keep whining- it makes no difference to anyone.

You would not understand my reasons for anything at all, and this is none of your business. Just as how and why you refuel your car is none of mine. In this thread I did not tell anyone how to behave with their own car, just stated how I use my own. If I cause harm to my car with anything that I do in its use, I certainly would never ask for sympathy on forums- would just fix it and change my habits.

If you were a rational adult asking me a question out of sincere interest, there is a definite reason for everything that I do. The point is, you don't live where I do and don't have the driving conditions that I do.
