the gas in my car sucks, what i mean is, its saying 27 city but no way. i have a 1999 buick century custom the gas is much better, no joke

Gotta not drive like a yahoo. Look at the instant mpg readout periodically as you drive and dont speed. Im getting 31mpg city

Are you calculating the number or just looking at the dash display? If it hasn't been reset recently, it won't be reflective of your current driving.

 

Dash display, how to reset?

 

Push the button till you see the tripmeter. Push and hold til it resets to 0. That also zeros out the ave mpg display.

IF all that has been done and the fuel MPG/fuel range meter is still inaccurate (and you've proven it with doing the correct math using mileage and gallons used), do you know if your Fit has had its PCM updated yet?

For the 2009 model year, there is a service bulletin applying to ALL Fits that year which had inaccurate displays. This may apply to your Fit.

 

My wife is getting 36-37MPG in her 2013 Sport.

 

I've a 2009 manual sport with 65,000 miles and have never gotten less than 30 mpg on any given tank, and at times do. Once I went from Boston to Aberdeen, MD, over 420 miles, on one tank. If you drive hard on brakes and gas pedal, then gas mileage will suffer. If you have already needed front brakes, that would be a tip off. Mine are around 60% worn.

If you are concerned that it might be the car, then get an Ultragauge or if you have a Droid, get an elm327 and monitor long and short term trim to see if one of your sensors is out of tolerance, but not enough to set the MIL.

Don't forget to check tire pressures. Don't rely on TPMS.

 

what size tires you running around on? anything wider than 195 will effect MPG

 

Calculate: miles driven divided by gallons to fill the tank.

OK, now, in Houston, Texas, I rarely see 35mpg commuting 30 mile round trip five times a week andthen local errands when not going to work.

Houston fuel is 10% ETHANOL!!. delete mpg for this reason.

Houston-and surrounding counties- fuel is BLENDED TO EPA SPECIFICATION. delete mpg for this reason.

Oh, I replaced worn original tires--I bought the car used in December of 09-with Yokahama performance tires. strike three.

Now IF I used Michlin Green x as reccomended by the Goodyear crew at a recent large SCCA sports car race,
2, had fuel in my fuel instead of ethanol, and
3. did not have ful blended to "better" emision "standards",

I believe I could see 40 mpg.

Any disagreement?

LOL some of you guys are spoiled. I had an infiniti I30 and a mach1 mustang before that. I'm getting 28 city in my Fit and am stoked. To heck with driving super slow the car is too much fun.

 

Good luck finding gas anywhere in the US that isn't 10% ethanol (at least). It's a federal mandate courtesy of the ethanol industry lobbyists - and now they want to push it to 15%, even though most cars and gas pumps can't deal with that. Worse, the refiners are hitting a limit on how much ethanol they can add for octane boosting, resulting in a glut of ethanol on the market. Bizarrely, this is causing the price to rise due to the strange way the quotas work.

 

Fwiw, e10 is there to replace MTBE a significant source of water pollution. I'll agree the ethanol as a fuel source is silly, but as a replacement for keeping my water drinkable, it makes sense.

In Texas these stations are far from "conjested areas".
Some marinas have alcohol free fuel.
Nearest to Houston, Texas is Rockport, down the coast.
Lotta boat traffic there.
Corpus Christi has three.

Oh, last year I was far from my normal area and filled the tank from light on last 30 miles.
Bang, next stop checked and after calcuation-gallons\miles--I found
27mpg!!!!
Checked later, that pump was E-85, I picked a station with the "new" fuel.

Normal is 33-34.

with them wide Yokahama tires.

 

Oh, and MTB was mandated by Congress in response to enviromentalists.
And the MTB lobby, which found something that sounded good and would put money in the right pockets.

Which is where we are now with alcohol.

Which rots fuel hoses, attracts water, corrodes metal fuel lines, carborotators, and fuel injection pumps and the injectors themselves.

Way to go corn lobby.

In racing the "Green" Corvettes in pro road racing get a 120 liter fuel tank.
Others in the same class running against these guys are imited to 90 liters running "real" fuel.

Now that says something!

The mandate for MTBE was made to phase out leaded gas. Its a big case of the environmentalists being right. Lead is nasty stuff. MTBE is clearly preferable.

Now we are discovering that MTBE makes groundwater undrinkable and requires significant expense to remove. E10 fixes that problem. Yes, E85 is stupid and wasteful and a sop to Iowa. That's irrelevant to the issue of MTBE pollution.

 

the MTBE versus alcohol is a decision of politics.

To my way of thinking the effort to make ethanol negates the emission advantages.
How is the effort to grow, fertilize, use herbicides, and transform CROPS to fuel good for the environment?

And the politicians had the MTBE information, but were pushed to "make" a fuel additive without checking with avalible information of the hazards.

If I can see a 10% increase in miles traveled per gallon, what are my vehicle emissions?

What are the emissions of all that farm effort and ethanol plant, not to mention the costs of the production.
And the runoff from herbicide and fertilizer additions.

And the blend of fuel changes with the seasons.
Yeah, "Your mileage may vary" regardless of driving technique.

MTBE has nothing to do with co2 emissions.
