09 Honda Fit Sport -> Possible Performance Upgrade Questions
 

Hi everyone! I'm Icirus and I own a white 09 Honda Fit Sport. I love how the fit handles and the fuel efficiency that it provides, but something is just lacking. I am wondering what performance upgrades I can/should get to improve the performance and efficiency of my fit!
Some friends have told me to maybe get my ecu remapped and get a new intake/exhaust system but since I'm not too sure what I should and should not do, I decided to ask the fitfreak community!

Any and all comments/suggestions are welcomed! My fit is currently stock (everything is stock as my parents currently use the car).. all seasons on stock rims for spring/summer/fall.. yokohomas (i think) for winter tires on steels(also I think).

Take a browse through some of the 2nd gen specific forums.

The Fit is a Eco minded car, so there won't be a lot to gain in the areas of "performance" without a pretty significant investment of time and $.

Suspension wise though you have plenty of options to get it to handle on rails! Combine that with some lite weight wheels and good tires and the Fit can be good fun.

Just my opinion but....buy some 12 year old camaro to beat on so you can baby that fit so it'll last forever.

If you want efficiency AND performance the only answer is turbo.

Efficient out of boost and performance in boost.

any intake, the weapon R "header" specific to 09+, replace or remove muffler, colder spark plugs like Denso IK22s, 93 octane fuel.

Performancewise these are a great combo.

Handlingwise, all the available lowering springs are stiffer. What changes is balance. Some keep a stiffer front then rear balance, others attend to stiffen the rear quite a bit. Driving taste will dictate your choice.


Lighter rims and tires will help everywhere. If you are not concerned with the weight of the tires, consider that a pound off the tires is similar to 4-7 pounds off the rim, depending on rim size.

I myself am looking to spend around $640 and I get 5 pounds off each wheel, and that includes going to a much wider tire. The wider tire only ways 1 pound extra while teh rims are only 11.2 pounds.

My stock base steelies (15s) weight 33.2 pounds each, rim and tire

Tanabe Touring Medallion exhaust, springs/coilovers, and light weight rims are my best investments so far. It's a loosing battle trying to do too much more in the performance department.

Time to complement that exhaust with a better breathign intake. Chuck that factory box!

^ On that front, I would go with the PRM, it's the only intake to actively make use of the OEM cool air ducting channel thats routed to behind the battery :D

If you do go with an intake and want to save some money there is a DIY intake thread in the performance section. See link below. I did this to my 2012 Fit for under $100 (including a new airbox lid so I still have my original and an expensive K&N cone style filter). It sounds great and, even though many people say that an intake doesn't add any power because the computer negates the airflow advantages, I really feel like it gave the engine a little boost. It may all be in my head, but it definitely sounds faster!:D
