2013 Honda Fit Sport (MT) vs 2013 VW Golf Trendline (MT)
Why did you have to come and say that?
lol
Just called two dealers and they rejected/couldn't match/beat the offer I got from another dealership. So I guess I gotta get it from the dealership that gave me the best offer since no others were able to beat them, I am gonna push for a bit more, cause at this point, I don't really care if I get the Fit or not since it doesn't really suit my needs, it's just a "nice-to-have".

looks like I'm late to the party, but I came out of a '99 Protege LX when I bought the Fit. I really enjoyed the Protege and it drove well; I was just ready for something different after ten years and wanted the hatch (the Protege5 wasn't available in '99).
Compared to the Protege, I find the Fit has a little more of a go-kart feel, but I don't find it uncomfortable on the highway. If anything, it's stable and goes where you want it to. You mentioned the "alive" feeling and I find that feeling keeps me alert and thus easier to control the car. I don't find the MT hard to shift or engage, although the 1-2 shift takes a little getting used to. My understanding is that's probably the clutch delay valve.
I haven't driven a Golf, but I did test drive a Jetta when we bought the Outback. Nice car, but in my opinion, not worth the price.
Enjoy your Fit!

Thanks for all the help and advice everyone!! I just got to the dealership
Update: Put in my order and credit application for the car and just waiting for delivery.
You guys recommend I get any of these?
Paint protection
Sound Shield (Underbody coating)
Interior protection (not gonna get this)
Rust protection (not gonna get this)

"No" to all of the above.
Also say "no" to extended warranties, service contracts (with or without nitrogen tire fills), and spinal adjustments.
They will cry, coerce, plead, and threaten; just say no.*
*Nancy Reagan was right.

Extended warranties I always ask the salesman or woman do I have a concern on the reliability, maybe I should look at something else they usually change the subject for fear of losing a sale.

I won't comment on price or value of dealer added stuff since presumable the deal is done, so all that is left is congratulations and welcome to the club!
I've had my '13 Sport MT for a few weeks now, and though I am coming off a larger faster car ('02 Maxima with 6sp), still say the Fit is under powered, but I passed on the VW and others options for reliability and tossability.

Congrats and welcome to the forum.
I've only run into a couple situations with the Fit I wished it had more power, and they were all at highway speeds on steep grades where 3rd gear was topped out too soon and 4th was too low to pick up much speed.
Even an old Maxima 6MT (or AT for that matter) will destroy pretty much any of the non-sport oriented compacts on the market today (in a straight line anyway lol)

im still real excited to drive the Fit to work everyday actually. the MT definitely makes the car fun to drive for me.

Glad you went for the FIT, welcome, everybody on this site would think you made the right choice (while people on the VW site may think you are nuts).
Other info you may already know, yes Canadian FIT are built in China, and GOLFs come from Mexico. Can't tell you which is better or worse, but VW is not known for it reliability compare to Honda.
One other note, know a guy in Calgary bought a GTI, drove it for less than a year, sold it and bought a FIT. Happy ever after, the end.
Enjoy your new FIT.

The Fit actually reminds me a lot of my much loved '88 Jetta MT which was a simple light & comfortable, and more space than you'd think. Surprisingly I actually didn't even drive a VW when I was shopping this summer -reliability issues turned me off what are beautifully crafted and a fantastic to drive vehicles.
Power around town in the Fit is fine (and downright fun!) if you keep the revs up, but that would sounds a bit obnoxious pulling into the playground with the kids
On the highway with any kind of weight (2 kids & some gear) and you get killed on the hills. Totally agree with cjecpa
