2008 Fit, won't start in cold weather
I have a 2008 Fit S, manual, 75,000 miles. This is my first winter, and might be my car's first winter as well. I bought it in Texas and recently moved to Minnesota.
Before the cold weather arrived I got my Fit serviced and the mechanic said it was in top shape. Over the past week it has been cold (-15 C / 10 F) and my Fit has been starting without a problem and running like a charm. Today it failed to start. Every time I turn the key, the dashboard lights turn on but I get a whirring/clicking sound and the engine doesn't start. Any ideas? Is the battery? The solenoid? The starter? |
I have suffered that dreaded click click... dead battery. Get a new one.

Thanks, it was the battery. Got it replaced.

Before changing the battery test it.
In the cold morning before cranking the engine it should read at least 12.2 Volts. |
No surprise about the battery, mine lasted me only 3 years before having to have it replaced. One thing I am going to do is add the 1/2 Farad capacitor from my old car stereo. My integra had a battery that "needed to be replaced" for about 4 years and I swear that the reason it still started here in Below zero temps (in VT) was due to the fact that my car stereo had that capacitor. The moment you turned over the car, the Cap would dump that power and the car never failed to start. 7 1/2 years went by and I traded the car with the original battery which was not a lot bigger than the Fit's.
