What's fallen off our Jazz???

Hi all,
Something has fallen off my other half's 2009 Jazz and I'm struggling to identify what. It's a silver coloured, flimsy, tin shield from above the exhaust. It was situated roughly level with the rear door on the driver's side of the car (we're in the UK so it's a right-hand drive car).

It started rattling when we got home late on Sunday night. I looked under the car and found the shield had come loose at its rear edge and was rattling on the exhaust whilst the car stood idling. I tried to push it back into place as best as I could and my fiancée went to work in the car yesterday. On her way home she saw a silver thing go flying behind her in her rear view mirror. She pulled over on a busy road to try and find it, but couldn't find it anywhere. Her parents took the car to the garage today and the workshop manager says that everything is present and correct. I've searched the forum and the internet and cannot find out what the part was so that I can tell the garage what it was. From its position I would guess it was a heat shield, however it was a very thin piece of metal so I can't imagine it would stop much heat.

I'd be hugely grateful for anyone's help in identifying what the part that has fallen off is so that I can speak to the garage about it. I'd also appreciate any advice as to whether it is safe to drive the car without the part in situ?

sounds like you lost a heat shield, most likely from the cat. typically those are tac welded on and isnt unheard of from coming loose on cars. ive personally never experienced it but its happened to friends before.

tell that work shop manager he isnt very bright.

I, too, believe its a part or all of a heat shield. And just because its thin it will still defect (or contain) an enormous amount of heat. Around the cat its intended to shield the very hot cat from igniting flammable substances nearby be it grass or the car.

If you have a friend with the same car you could do a like for like comparison. By jacking both your cars up on the drivers side and looking at each section in turn. The honda garage should have done that unless the mechanic has intimate knowledge of the underside of a Jazz.

Do you still have the piece? You can either get it welded back on or...
Attachment 86514
get 2 hose clamps from your local hardware store and strap it back on XD
That pic is from a gd3 but I would assume this would work with almost any shield.
