exactly and even 4k for a 3 year old car that was bought for 16k is pretty damn good to trade into a dealer....

Agreed.

A lot of people that you encounter on forums won't buy anything without an assurance about future resale value. I guess that means that a lot of people on forums want to buy things that they know they cannot really afford. :D

Still disagree . The drop looks to be getting larger . Aware of the want for larger vehicles , lower gas prices ( rising ) and more economy cars ( new , used ) sitting on lots . The 2 recalls for driver / passenger side are likely contributing more so . I would think the recalled Hondas waiting to be fixed on Honda dealer lots wouldn't help book value . We have 2 FITS . Makes it a bit more frustrating . Both are in use .

I would get them turned into rental cars and then when this is all said and done your mileage will be awesome :) I have already saved 2,400 miles off my fit with my rental!

Another larger loss . -353 for 1 week and additional 242 miles .

Fit Charlie 06-06-2016 10:11 AM

You don't lose until you sell it. Do that.

dlivry7 06-06-2016 10:50 AM

i think you would have to look at all the other cars that are involved in the airbag recall to get an accurate picture of increased depreciation.
i'm still amazed at the number of cars involved.

Methinks OP has OCD.

Fit Charlie 06-06-2016 12:19 PM

Seeing as the OP has OCD, maybe we should keep the recall of the SRS on the QT.

Odie 06-06-2016 02:13 PM

Odie, another day has passed! Better go check your residual value!!! ;)

Seriously, I think your car's value is tied more to the price of gas than the price of the airbag. If you see it heading back towards $4/gallon you will likely see the value rise too.

Wdoney 06-08-2016 03:25 PM

I got a great deal on the 2016 Fit that I bought a couple of weeks ago and I probably will not sell it for at least 10 years. For some of us its all working out well.

" Odie, another day has passed! Better go check your residual value!!! ;) "

Will do that tomorrow . 1 week .

" Seriously, I think your car's value is tied more to the price of gas than the price of the airbag. If you see it heading back towards $4/gallon you will likely see the value rise too. "

Let's hope so . Oil is over $51 a barrel .

Good for you and best of luck . Have owned the '11 about 5 1/2 years and the '13 a bit over 2 . May keep both until the end .

I am just not seeing the purpose of checking the "resale" value on a vehicle that you aren't planning on selling yet.... Cars depreciate, they are never an investment. best not worry about day to day losses and just enjoy the vehicle. At least its not a house that can lose thousands over night some nights....

Fit Charlie 06-09-2016 09:58 AM

The "value" of my house, car, 401k and everything else is irrelevant until I want money from any of them.

I bought a meal a few days ago. 100% of that money's already down the toilet. But I'm not a grocery store, I didn't buy that food to resell, so it doesn't matter what the resale "value" is.

Unless you're a used car dealer or ditching your car this week, what's resale value?

ToddF 06-09-2016 11:20 AM

In my state I have to pay property tax on my car based on it's value. I'd prefer it was worth nothing, right up until the day I want to sell it. Then I want it to be worth what I paid for it. :)

Odie 06-09-2016 12:51 PM

Stated MAY keep until the end . The value of $9,495 ends today . New is 6/10 . MAY post that tomorrow .

brivers222 06-10-2016 09:36 AM

well even still... you have to keep it until at least the airbags are fixed... after that, nothing should be wrong with the car and you should see it go back to normal numbers. still 9.5k is a great price for a used car
