First I got the 'Check gas cap' mesage and then the engine light. The gas cap was Ok but I replaced it and that didn't fix it. Then I took it to a Honda place. They connected their computer to the car and said all was Ok. The EVAP canister purge valve is easy to test and was Ok. The EVAP canister vent shut valve was also Ok. This one is harder to test, you can take it out and hook it up directly to the battery but make sure you get the polarization right. These solenoid valves seem to have a diode in parallel. If you hook it up backwards it drives so much current that the pins start to glow! In the end the culprit was a mouse that decided to build a nest and make room right on top of the gas tank. It chew a hole into the fuel tank vapor recirculation tube. It was a very small hole, about 1/16". I fixed it with a glue gun for now. We'll see if it lasts.

 

Wow, that's crazy. Where was the car parked? Did you leave it sitting for a while? Nice manual btw!

 

This was last fall, the car is parked outside and I use it at least Monday to Friday. So I guess it took the mouse only a few hours...

The mouse probably moved in into a new heated apartment without hesitation.

 

And after that I still had a small leak in the system.
I found that the plastic hose that sits in the rear wheel well behind a plastic shield had a leak. Take a look at the pictures. The o-ring (green) on the upper connector has dirt in one area, at about 5 o'clock, a clear sign that it was not sealing. That's clearly a design flaw, a shame that Honda will come up with something like this! That connector is shaped like a funnel and the funnel is pointing up! It may be protected by the plastic shield, but the dirt will always spray around and flow down the vent pipe and right into that connector! Some much for design for reliability! I cleaned it all with Windex, added a bit of grease to the o-ring and sent it back in. And also one picture of the test fix.

LOL, I live about 10 miles from you in Whitehouse Station, just got the same 0455 code on my scanner. To get to the evap canister top, is all you had to do was remove the center console under the emergency brake?

Yes, to get to the to of the gas tank you cave to remove the center console, where the hand brake is.
