Want Rims What Size
 

Just bought an 09 base model FIT with steel wheels. I am new to Hondas. What size wheel/tire am I looking for? 4x100 r15?

That depends on what you're looking for.

The base Fit uses 4x100 r15 wheels with 175/65R15 tires. The sport uses 4x100 r16 wheels with 185/55R16 tires.

So, if you want stock base, then yeah, get 4x100 r15 wheels + 175/65R15 tires.

There are some folks that moved to much wider tires on the same wheels and folks that moved to larger wheels.

I have the sport trim, so mine came with 16" wheels. I got new wheels that were the same size with a different offset (in mm), but I moved onto slightly wider tires 205/50/16.

And as just mentioned, you have to be careful with the offset. I'm not sure about the base trim, but the stock wheels for the sport Fit had an offset of +53 or so. The new ones I bought had +43.

If the offset is too high, you likely going to have the tires or worse, the wheels, rub on the shocks.

As for low offset... that leads to most noticeably, the wheel sticking out from the body of the car. The lower it is, the more it sticks out. There will also be some affect on the axle, but it probably won't matter much so long as the offset isn't ridiculous.

I don't think there's much threat of finding wheels with too much offset. The factory +53 is crazy high.

+40 here and it rubs in the rear. +43 to +48 with a 7" wide wheel is probably best unless you really like the poke look and are willing to live with rubbing.

Thanks much for all the info. I am a jeep guy and just bought this 09 with 9500 miles in immaculate condition for my wife after selling one of my jeeps. I am trying to just make it a bit sportier but can see myself getting into it much like I do with my jeeps.

So based on the info above my safest bet it to stick to searching for a honda set of take offs 4x100 r15 or max r16? Anything else I will need to pay close attention to the offset.

my next goal is to find a spoiler to add on... I have searched the forum but not found too much info about the Ebay or Amazon knock offs. I'll do more research on that then make a post.

Definitely keep weight in mind as well.

These cars are light with small suspension parts. Heavier wheels have quite a negative impact on handling and braking.

The stand by wheel for small imports is the Enkei RPF1. I'd kind of use that as a reference point.

I am lowered on Swifts with a +40 offset. I rub occasionally on the fronts.

17x7 offset 40 is a confirmed fit. With 205/45-17 tires it shouldn't rub. Or am I missing something?

I can only speak of the GD, but +40 at 7" width rubs on a GD. I suspect it does on the GE as well.

Sorry for misleading, 205/40-17 tires. The outer tire wall will be just 0.7" more out comparing to OEM:

OEM sport wheel on the GE is a 16x6 and tire is a 185/55-16. Put that in your chart above and you'll see why the +40 7" wide wheel rubs.

Edited to add that our GD came with 15x6 +53 wheels and 195/55-15's in case you want to look at that as well.
The optional/dealer installed wheel for the GD were reported to be 16x6.5 +55 and Honda recommended 205/45-16's.

The GE and GK have taller overall diameter tires than the GD, but all have 6" wide +53 wheels AFAIK.

23 mm more out than OEM (bottom left chart). Just "flush" with fender. ("aggressive fit")
Besides, overall diameter is 14 mm less, which gives some extra clearance on turns.

Are you looking for a rear spoiler on your front wheel drive car?

lulwut, no: what he needs are stretched tires over massively wide rims.

Thought I was pretty clear ... rear spoiler (trunk if I wasn't clear enough). Not sure what front wheel drive has to do with it.

Jhoutz, they are goofing on you a bit for wanting a bigger spoiler.

Personally, I think the car looks much better with the sport spoiler than the base model with nothing, so I'm with you.

DaGou seems to be under the impression that front wheel drive cars don't need a rear spoiler which is completely false. They still need rear downforce for handling reasons. I can promise you that cars like the Type R have the wing for a reason. It holds the Nurburgring record because of it's aerodynamics.

Not that any of that has anything to do with wanting a Fit to look sportier. A small wing just adds mild aesthetic improvements to an otherwise boring shape in this case.

I think eBay or a junkyard are going to be your best bet for finding an OEM sport spoiler in your cars color.
