SRS Airbag Light On after Battery Change

[solved]
Just wanted to give a quick update and say that my issue is now resolved.
I did indeed have to replace the front left impact sensor. Job took about 3 hours overall, but I saved myself over 300 doing it myself.

Steps to replace are really this simple:
1) disconnect battery
2) remove bumper
3) replace sensor
4) reconnect battery
5) test to ensure srs light is now off
6) replace bumper

This forum, and these resources, helped me immensely:

Extra clips as I'm sure I would break some (I was correct):

Hi guys,

I have a 2010 base Honda Fit with 123,000 miles on it - Second owner, had it since 7k miles, absolutely love the car as it is very low maintenance outside of oil change/brakes/filters (thankfully!).
However, recently my battery died. It probably sat for 3 days before I placed in a new battery.

Now I have the SRS airbag light on the dashboard. What makes it odd is that the light stayed on for about a week.
Then it turned off for a week (I did nothing).
Last night it just came back on.

Any ideas on what I can check here? I'm at a loss and don't want to bring it into the dealership.
I only have an OBDII scanner so I can't pull the SRS computer code?
Could it have anything to do with the battery positive terminal to the battery maybe? I honestly have zero clue what this could be.

Thanks for your help!

Not much help here....but I did have the same light come on earlier this year, on my 2010.
It turned out to be interference with the passenger restraint strap. I was carrying my bike upright with the wheel wedged between the door and front passenger seat. For some reason, it was setting off the light by putting pressure on the strap.
I don't know how it could, but the light goes off when the bike is moved back.
Good luck.

Thanks for the insight. I did check that out and everything looks okay but I don't know I ordered and SRS code reader and I'm going to find out what it says and go from there.

Code reported is 41-11 Left front impact sensor.
This is interesting because I wasn't in an accident and it only came on after battery change. It even went off for a week before coming back on without me doing anything.

This leads me to believe that I possibly shorted the sensor when I attempted to start the car on a dead battery and it wouldn't turn over.

Going to call the dealerships around me for pricing on the sensor tomorrow. Work to replace appears to be removing front bumper and a few torx screws. May ask dealership to quote work .. Should be a good laugh.

This is my first actual issue with the car. Not to bad.

I had a sensor go bad in 2013 on my 09. Check your manual and beg dealership to honour as these are covered under an extended wty for 7 years I believe. I found it somewhere in the manual. I had paid something around $200 but later when I found it in manual they gave me a refund. They were not aware of it either.

No such luck here. I just got off the phone with the dealership. Single sensor itself is $190. the labor to install and take care of the computer reset they are asking over $550. Looks like I need to find the part number source it myself and install it over a weekend. That is absolutely bonkers to me.

It is rather easy to do. Takes a bit of time

Whoa! That is super helpful! Where did you find that schematic? This is what I was looking at:

Looks like I can find the sensor for 100 bucks online.
Just need the time to do the work now.

I have a shop manual. One of the FitFreaks on East Coast sent me a copy many years ago. Been really helpful on here.

Good Luck with repair.

!

Wouldn't the Honda software on ebay (that you use with a laptop) work just as well?

seanpatrickk 01-06-2019 09:17 AM

What software are you talking about? This was firmware update for the scanner device I was using.

The Honda HDS:

You also have to get a obd2 to usb cable.

Bumping this thread since I'm experiencing something similar (has yet to be resolved).

I started noticing my SRS airbag light coming on when I reach speeds of 65 - 75mph (might have something to do with the accelerometer in the sensor) and staying on the duration of the drive.
Funny enough, the SRS light goes away after you restart the car.

Using a BlueDriver ODB2 scanner, I pulled the SRS codes and I got:
41-11: No Signal From Driver Front Impact Sensor
42-11: No Signal From Passenger Front Impact Sensor

This only started happening after I let the car sit for about two weeks -- do you think this is potentially related to a battery issue?

seanpatrickk 04-29-2019 04:23 PM

Hi Dhuang,

In your case I would first try the paperclip SRS module reset trick first:
See if that takes care of your problem. If not, perhaps both of the sensors went back and need replacement?

Good luck,
Sean

I'm not sure if that method applies to our generation Fit.

Also, the SRS light does go off every time I restart the car.

I will disconnect the battery, charge it, and see if that changes anything with regards to providing power to the front sensors.

Black3sr 04-30-2019 03:06 AM

I had a front passenger sensor go bad. I had it replaced under warranty. If you check your owner's manual it is buried in there that there is a 7 year wty on them.

dhuang 05-18-2019 08:54 PM

To test if the sensors were truly bad, I swapped the left & right front impact sensors, cleared the stored SRS codes, and funny enough the problem went away! (I hope) :thumbups:

EDIT (3/30/21): It's been nearly two years since this "fix" and the SRS light has not returned. 🙌

This is super helpful!
By the way, if my SRS light did not turn on, and yet when I use BlueDriver OBDII scanner to scan it, it found 41-11. Could that be a "historical" code and nothing to worry about? I guess my question is, if I am having that 41-11 code "No Signal From Driver Front Impact Sensor" code BUT my SRS light does not turn on, can I safely assume that the 41-11 code is not "active" and my driver front impact sensor is still "working" correctly? Thoughts? Thanks!
