Oil Life Meter (reset)
Hi,
How do I reset the oil life meter/gauge? (to 100%) THnks, J |
It's in the manual and if it's confusing I think you hold it for 10 seconds, release and then hold in again for some period of time.

Thanks!
I wish I had a manual...... I don't have a manual..... If you don't mind...... Can you just spell it out for me here? So Key goes to "RUN" position......(don't start vehicle) Press Dial indicator/button for like 10 seconds....... After that Start vehicle Dash lights come on(typical at start up) If you need to clarify??? Do I got this correct? |
You can probably download the owners manual from the honda.com website in the owners area
Key in run position or start the engine push tripmeter button until oil life is showing push and hold trip button in until oil life display is flashing (approx 10 seconds) release trip button then immediately push and hold trip button again until oil life shows 100% (approx 10 seconds) |

It should be at 100% when you start up the engine the next time. |

Glad I changed the oil.......
Oil life said 60%...... It didn't dump out like 60%.....life oil.. I think someone prior to the purchase .... reset the meter without changing the oil..... Does anyone know???? What in miles???? is the oil life expectancey? |
The maintenance minder on Hondas is "smart." It tracks multiple variables including engine revolutions, time at operating temperature and more to determine the oil change interval appropriate for your driving pattern. It's not magic however. If it has been reset without the service being done, it has no way of knowing. It also doesn't check oil level.
Mine has varied between 5K and 10K depending on my commute (or lack of) over the past 10 years. It's counter-intuitive but light use, short trips where it doesn't get to operating temperature is actually severe service. Combustion byproducts don't get boiled out of the oil because it never gets hot enough. These combine to create corrosives which accelerate engine wear. In these conditions more frequent oil changes are desirable. The maintenance minder allows for this; I've read where it has called for oil changes in less than 4,000 miles for some drivers. Other maintenance items seem more mileage related as flagged on the MM:
Brake pads and shoes are entirely personal. The front pads should have audible wear indicators if they're from the factory or OE style. The noise these make is not obviously from the brakes, a weird metal-on-metal wisp at first. Check Honda's owners website. I think you can register by VIN and it will give access to the owner's manual. |
INteresting, that is good to know......
Yes, Chronic short trips are bad on a vehicle.... Is there any other way to get a manual......(pdf?) |
My oil meter varied between 8k-9k miles with my current commute and over 10k when I was doing more highway.
