Wheel well protector?
 

Hi- I have a 2009 Honda Fit Sport and the rear wheel wells are starting to rust, where the metal folds over.under the wheel well. I know that I must correct the rust problem but are there any 3rd party wheel well protectors? My newer Honda CR-V has that plastic that covers the inside wheel wells and that lip- anything like that for my fit?

My 2009 Sport has the same problem. The 2009 didn't have full wheel protectors on the rear wheels.

Sorry for the snow and vertical photos, it's almost -30C/-22F right now.

On the right well, there's a little plastic cover for the seam in front of the wheel. That's missing on the left. That's where I have a tiny bit of rust.

After consulting all the "rust" and "wheel well" posts on this forum, and consulting a couple mechanics, I'm going to use a brush wheel and clean up any rust and left over rubber undercoating from the previous owner, dealship or factory. Some of it is still intact, and I should be able to remove all the rust.
Then I'm going to use a rustoleum/or Rust Killer paint in a couple coats. Then use a rubberized undercoating.

I'm in the Canadian Prairies. Super Cold winters, not much salt corrosion, and I drive on gravel roads a lot. The existing rubberized coating appears to be holding up pretty well so far, except around that seam in the middle of the well in front of the wheel, so I'm just going to get it back to brand new after completely clearing out the tiny bit of rust I do have.

I'm still nervous that maybe i should just use an oil or wax based inhibitor, but rust just isn't as much of a problem here, and the upkeep might not make sense for me.

I'm not a gear head, or expert, and I would value any feedback or rejection from someone with ANY knowledge and experience.

More concerned with stopping this from happening again once I get the rust fixed- any 3rd party wheel wells?
