K&N Cold Air Intake

So, I just got my car back from K&N's R&D department in Riverside and they gave me their new intake for the GE for keeping my car for a couple days.

So far everything seems pretty good. I'm loving the sound from the intake, it makes it so much more sporty-er. The pipe and heat shield are very secure, doesn't give me any feelings of it falling off while i'm driving.

The only thing I noticed was this smell coming from the engine after I get out of the car. Not sure if it's from the new intake or what. Anyone have know if a new intake would do that?

The smell is very unique, it's not a burning smell or anything like that.

Are you allowed to post pictures? Lots of GD people have had very bad experiences with K&N intakes. There shouldnt be a smell after a new intake though.

Instead of telling us what it doesn't smell like, perhaps you could tell us what it does smell like?

the smell is more than likely the plastic/rubber in the intake heating up and outgassing. Should only do it for a while.

Did they do any dyno's or any fun stats? however only gaining 5 hp at max all you will notice is the sound and your MPG going down cuz all you ever do now is floor it so you can listen to the engine... well for me that is the case

haha yeah they ran a dyno and its a 5hp gain. At least their not like some companies that make up bull$*@! numbers to make you buy it

but yeah all i do now is floor it whenever i get the chance

Here's some quick pictures that i was able to get on my cell phone.
If i ever find my camera, ill take some better pictures

Not a bad looking design. Simular to the PRM, with a different filter and a heat shield. I do like the heat shield part, though I wonder if it makes a real difference.

Very well designed intake. This is definately the intake ill be getting. Utilizes the stock air scoop, and has a heat shield. Cant wait for its release.

The heat shield is nicely made. Really sturdy and is mounted (by what i can see right now) with 3 bolts.

Tell me about it man I drove through 2 feet of water here last week due to some serious flooding I got stuck in. Submerged my foglights enough to shatter the bulbs and fill them with water.
