I got my voice mail earlier this week. I have only been to the local dealer here once, when I paid for an oil change prior to my 36k warranty expiring. At that point, they tried to sell me the 30k mi service. You know, the one that only exists at dealers?

Anyway, what all has to come off, bodywise, for this repair? I want to verify that everything is put back together properly. I apologize if this has been answered in this thread already, but I really do not care to read through 25 pages. Thank you.

Does this sound right?

I asked why the VIN would not be the determination on the build/parts, but they told me that this part only affected some Fits within the VIN range and needed visual to know if it needs to be done. What a nightmare for such a stellar build quality brand.
It's a 2 parter. The TSB says that they have to look at a stamp on the spring to see if it needs replacement so this is normal. But why your dealer has no replacements on hand I don't understand. Mine needed replacing. They had it in stock and my car was done by lunch time. And that's with me telling them to take their sweet time. The service manager even asked me if I had any other complaints with the car that they should look at. The job seemed like cake the way they handled it. Sounds like your dealer is either having trouble getting replacement springs or just does not have his act together.

You two seem to more have serious problems than your Fits. How have you developed these attitudes? If you are to damn lazy to read the whole thread then suffer. Why the hell should any one take the time to relist everything? I could look it up in my shop manual but why? I am not even going to look it up for my recall but rely on my dealer to do it properly same as any other work they have done.

My attitude? You judge me on one post, where I even apologize if it has been listed already? I don't freqent this site much, but, I certianly hope the rest of the clientele here does not suffer from the asshandery and douchebaggery which emanates from your post.

Why would you list the information? Well, the same reason I answer how to rebuild a caliper over and over again to a new person, the same reason I explain about adjusting valves on the m3 forum, etc.: because I am on here to help people as well as learn for myself.

Rely on the dealer? What world do you live in? Dealers are notorious for making mistakes and pushing them off on the customer to take care of. As such, it is best to be as well prepared as possible when you take the car it.

Good luck!

Damn, Wild Bill, did you wake up early and drink a second pot of coffee or what? It has been quite awhile since you have been as riled as you are this morning, take a pill, have a glass of wine, get laid or do something to get yourself in a better mood... Don't be making us old guys look like grumps.

for those asking questions which have been answered amongst the 25 previous pages....
the actual service bulletin delivered to honda dealers can be viewed here:
it describes the process, step by step.........
http://www.filedropper.com/a11-010 (scroll down to "download this file")

btw, if your dealer says you'll have to come twice, then i say it's time to find a new dealer.

With all your experience then you should already know how to pull the valve cover. Look around a bit - it's all in the thread. Don't be a dink. You obviously have a dealer attitude [plus a few others others] - now you need to go to one to protect the value of you ride. Trust in them.

Coyote we are grumpys! Tough hands feeding the pigeons some times - especially those acting like starlings. How was the trip senior?

Why should I pull the valve cover for a recall? I bought the Honda for it to be less maintenance, and it certianly has served its purpose. I have no issue going to the dealer for a recall, that's what they are there for. As far as a dealer attitude, call it what you wish, I just like my mechanic to be honest and forthright (sp) with me. Dealers are no better than any other indy shop at that; they just have a logo. My only visit to my Honda dealer in Flagstaff resulted in them giving me a list of 'required' maintenance that wasn't required. If I were more ignorant than I already am, I would have likely fallen for it. Honda dealer in milwaukee tried the exact some thing to my father when he was at 30k on his Accord. The honda dealer in phoenix where I used to have my accord serviced did the same thing. Would you trust them?

I had to look up dink:

3 options:

1. A two-career couple with no children.
2. A drop shot.
3. Used as a disparaging term for a North Vietnamese soldier or guerrilla in the Vietnam War.

Which one am I?

As far as other attitudes I may carry, you are the only calling me names.

argh.

Got the car back. Lo and behold the cowl was loose, closely inspection shows clips are missing and retaining clips might be broken.

I really am not sure. I was never in vietam, and I am not married. So I guess it means I am a drop shot? Haha.

Hey KC. Trip was good going. Nice and sunny then two days of rain while we were there. Got up to 3-4 inches of snow yesterday morning. Fun driving through some whiteouts. But the trusty new Grand Caravan was a pleasure to drive. Amazing how the colour - titanium stays so clean looking.

The Fit is still kind of snowed in in the drive.

Wily - must be lack of tail or something eh?

Maybe I should do my own recall because if I listen to the crap on here my Fit will be destroyed or at least come back with missing parts etc. I am sure I could do a better job than Honda. Now if I could just get the hood open.

haha. I gotta admit that was funny.

Just got my recall notice in the mail today but thanks to all my fitfreak friends here, the job is already done. A big thank you to all the knowledgeable people here for taking the time to share your expertise.

This I Do NOT understand. There are some crappy dealers out there, sure... but in order for Honda to maintain the excellent reputation it has, the Majority of service departments HAVE to be decent. Most people I know that own Hondas (especially the higher priced ones like the Crosstour, ridgeline, Pilot, etc...) take them to the dealer instead of an independent mechanic. If most of the service departments were lousy Honda's reputation would be in the toilet.

Dealers are not NOTORIOUS... things get totally blow out of proportion. for Example, I guess my recall was a complete failure because the wiper arm was off by not just one, but two notches... DEFINITE FAILURE!!!! I HAD TO GO TO THE DEALER TWICE...!!!$$$%%%^^^ --- yeah... not so much. Swung by the dealer today and the Tech who happened to be at the desk (and also did the recall work on my car) grabbed a wrench and adjusted it with the family in the car. Didn't even have to get out... and they appreciated me bringing it to their attention as it is something they'll have to watch out for next time.

If there is a major problem with the dealer, Contact Honda Corporate. Anyone who doesn't, is part of the problem and has no right to complain about dealers. In a perfect world, everyone would be perfect, in the real world it takes feedback and people standing up to correct the problems that are out there.

remember, horror stories are ALWAYS told... successes are occasionally told so whatever negative you hear should be remembered, but taken with a grain of salt as NOT the norm. A great example is NYC News; by their standards, everyone in the NYC Metro area is a murderer or rapist. You don't hear about the people who survived the day with no incident...

Helps to have made friends and established a relationship at your dealer of choice... Just sayin'

Unless my dealer has been super busy someone would always take the time and BS for a while. I have the only "modified" cars they see on a regular basis so that doesn't hurt. My Fit doesn't count just yet but several of them have seen the parts I have already for what I plan to do to it and occasionally they let me use the racks for the Laser when I've needed it. The head parts guy has a turbo civic that we shoot the shi*t about too.

They have let me do this for two of the other project cars I have had since buying the Fit in early 2008.

Also, as of yesterday my dealer still hasn't had a single car come in for the LMS. I didn't really look into it to be honest because I have a GD and don't really care... but it had me wondering if maybe this was a regional thing due to however they distribute the cars coming off the ships.

On an semi related note...

I am trying to help the service manager (Luke W. at Muller Honda) sell his sport bike at the moment, so if anyone is interested PM me and I will get you his contact info.
