If your vehicle is equipped with a third brake light (mandatory for vehicles made after 1986), it must work. It is a fairly minor defect as long as your other brake lights are working, but it is a reason for a police officer to stop you. Also- if you happen to get rear-ended and the light wasn't working, there's a chance you could be held at partially at fault since you knew about the problem and did not get it fixed- it's contributory neglience. The other person's insurance may refuse to pay the damages since the 3rd light is required.

Thats interesting, Ive had 2 older preludes..... 87 and 91 that didnt have a 3rd brake light.
My 2000 prelude had one but it was a dummy light that didnt work because there was one on the factory wing, which some people take off.

I wasnt aware they were mandatory. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Still working great on the 2013 Fit

With a 15% off coupon on retailmenot, I got this for under $18 shipped (iJDMToy.com) and installed it following your pictorial instructions. Had to reverse the wires to get the polarity right (arrived connected backwards) but otherwise everything was easy. Here's a picture:

The rear window has a 20% tint. Thanks for making it simple, greatly appreciated.

I know I'm bumping an old thread here but has anyone had issues with groups of the LEDs going out? I got mine two months ago and already two groups of three have gone out. I want to get another one but not from the same place... Made in China off eBay... Go figure. iJDM doesn't have the "Fit" one anymore. Thanks for any and all info.

Greetings!

Sorry to hear that iJDMToy doesn't have the FIT brake light. Mine still has all the LED's functional but I have to admit to putting low miles on the car.

In the worst case scenario, you might be able to repair/replace the LEDs that are bad with a little basic soldering skills. Radio Shack still carries bulbs and the prices are not too bad: Radio Shack LEDs.

A GOOGLE search (from 2015) provided this contact info from FitFreak member OneStopCustoms. He hasn't participated here since then, though.

Thank you. I have PM'd him and also alexfree who was the original seller. I had forgotten that I spent $80 on that light! Well if someone still makes them I will consider replacing the one that is defective.

Well, good luck. That user hasn't been on the forum for two years, and the FB link is gone...
