Lost Motion Spring Recall: 2009-2010 Fit

Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding Lost Motion Spring Recall: 2009-2010 Fit

TORRANCE, Calif. – February 16, 2011 – Honda will recall 97,201 model year 2009-2010 Fit vehicles in the U.S. to replace the lost motion springs, components within the engine valvetrain. The lost motion springs, which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, may bend or break over time resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine damage or stalling. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda by mail. Notification to customers will begin in early March 2011.
When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end in addition to contacting customers by mail, in early March, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling. Honda owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4.

Check with Honda Owners Link, set up an account if you don't have one and check on recalls for your VIN. My 2010 Fit is not subject to the recall based on my VIN.

My 2010 base VIN is also not showing as having recall; however, am not sure if Honda owner link is updated as yet. Anyone know yet?

We have to wait til March. I'm waiting til owner's link sends an email or more likely other Fitfreak users start posting their results.

Thanks to the OP for putting all these topics in one place. This is what this site is all about.

I'm glad Honda is making us aware before it becomes an issue for the majority of us owners out there. Thanks to sites like this there are more informed consumers out there and we will all benefit.

What is your VIN number? Let me know and I can maybe help you. I have 2010 base and it is not part of recall as it was made in Suzuka factory which is not involved in recall.

Interesting; where did you see that (Saitama/Sayama and not) Suzuka-built models were not involved in the LMA recall? Nothing from a quick google.

Suzuka factory is designated by AS code in your VIN and 2010 recalls are all for AC code which is Saitama factory. Not sure about 2009, as those codes were 9S and 9C codes which I am not up on. Hope this helps.

The info about activating the TPMS sensors just saved me a trip back to the dealer.

Apparently the person that check mine in didn't know they had to activate them. My TPMS light came on after driving for exactly 20 miles. (Car had 2 miles on it when I bought it)

My stupid dealer forgot to set up the TPMS, too. Needless to say, I went to another dealer when the LMS recall came around.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank the OP for this thread- it's great. The dealer didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for the MPG gauge fix. I think they were shocked when I pulled out the TSB (I just wish the software update would have worked better- it's still off by about 1.2 MPG. Better than 5 or 6, I guess).

Site won't allow less than ten character spaces for a post. So a simple answer like nope won't post up. Gotta add characters and ten char is Internet lingo folks. Look it up

I'm not anyone's idea of a "forum geek," but I'll try this one.

A "sticky" usually refers to a thread that has been designed (by a forum mod) to appear at the top of a forum or sub-forum. For example, go here --> 2nd Generation (GE 08-present) <-- and you will see some threads that begin with the word "Sticky."

In this case of this thread, some sticky-like information appears in Post #1 (see Page 1 of this thread).

Hope I got that right.
