That's an important point: Dealers use bulk oil, and it's probably NOT Honda brand.

My dealer said it was oil from Honda in the bulk. It lasts 7500 miles in my car with no oil usage. I talked to the mechanic at work and he was taught that as long as the oil meets the API ratings its designed for that application. It doesn't matter how they made it because the differences are small. I agree with most of it but there are better base stocks and additives and it depends on power output and applications.

M1 is a tri synthetic and is mostly POA and Group 5, If you look at the PDS Mobil 1 5W-20 you will see the VI is 160. Group III is 120 and PAO is 125 to 150 and Group 5 is 100 to 175. I doubt they use a lot of VI improvers. I have my reasons for not liking M1 as much but it still seems to be a great oil.

Edit for resources: http://www.machinerylubrication.com/...ase-oil-trends ; http://www.peterverdone.com/archive/motoroil.htm I understand its motorcycle and old but still has good info.

I think you got the oil backwards but why not just stick with 0w20 all year?

Thanks for the links. Most of my friends run Redline or Royal Purple. I might make the switch to one of them.

I'm running Amsoil in the gearbox and it definitely shift smoother.

I really like Red line 5w40, it seems to be a great utility oil for all cars and trucks. Now I have to go out and build a car so I can use it. I will check out Royal Purple specifications but someone said it was close to M1.

I know Amsoil is a great oil but don't like its sale techniques, so I will pass on that.

Yup good call.

Mike you're gonna want that thinner 0w cold weight for those winter starts!

Might as well leave it for the summer too! Unless your tracking the Fit and go with a 5w30.

He was seeing if we were paying attention. I am still thinking a 5w30 is a good oil for all Honda vehicles. My car started on the first spark plug firing. It took 10 minutes to thaw it out though. I use 5w20 Conoco semi synthetic.
