Had a little incident.... Honda 2007 Fit front suspension

Late last month my car slipped on ice and impacted the pavement/curb on the LHS Front Wheel. No damage to anything visibly. Steering was out of whack and I thought just alignment. Took it to the alignment shop and they have reported that the lower control arm and the strut is bent. They have also said that the tie rod and axle may also be bent. My questions are:

1. Is this damage likely from hitting the curb?
2. How common is it to have the axle and tie rod damaged as well?
3. Is this a possible DIY for an owner with moderate skills?

Wisdom appreciated,

DT
