How to install Axxess ASWC Steering Wheel Control adapter
The instructions from Axxess say to connect the Gray/Red wire from the ASWC unit to Pin 16 of the cars harness, and to connect Pin 5 of the cars harness to ground. However, Pins 5 & 16 are empty. Some have said that you are supposed to stick the Axxess wires into those empty Pin slots -- WRONG. Those are empty plastic boxes -- you would get no signal. You need to connect the above ASWC wires to the wires carrying the signal from the steering wheel controls to the factory radio, as follows:
Connect the white wire of the cars original harness to ground, and the Pink wire (there are 2; use the one adjacent to the white wire) to the Gray/Red wire of the ASWC unit. Then make your power connections (ASWC units black to ground [black] and red to 12v ign [red]). That's it. You can use taps instead of soldering as the instructions say (so no cutting of any wires), and you don't have to use a chassis ground. I used the small red 18-24 gauge Posi-Taps. They are hard to find; I got mine from WhiteHorse Gear. I grounded to the harness ground. ***Disclaimer: As with doing anything in life, things can go wrong. This is what I did and it worked. I am not responsible if it doesn't work for you. |
^^ thanks for the info. im gonna be trying this out in a couple of weeks on my '12 as well. :)

since mine is a '12 (5MT USDM Sport), my harness had the pin5 and pin16. i just followed the instructions, but it was great to have your tips onhand just in case! :thumbups:

Do you know if the modified ASWC-1 has the same installation procedure? It appears that it's similar (if not identical) to the original ASWC only that it has a mini-USB connector for updates. Their installation database says the new version hasn't been tested yet with a current-generation Fit.

so to clarify, you take the white wire from the car, you cut it, and then chassis ground it? also what did u do with all the other wires on the ASWC? thanks.

All I did was pull a couple of unused plugs and used those to insert, worked fine. I don't recall the details, I just know it had to have it's own ground.
Only thing I didn't like was I couldn't figure out which program changed the hold channel button to change music folders instead of fast forward like it originally worked on default. Also never figured out wich harness wire was the speed sensitive so I could use it on the aftermarket HU |

the pink wire with silver dots (car harness pin#16) was tapped to the gray/red wire on the ASWC harness. other then that, the red ASWC wire tapped to the switched +12v, and black wire to ground. and 3.5mm jack to my HU's wired remote jack. the other wires you dont use, just wrap it up with e-tape. |
oh, and as soon as i powered up my stereo (ACC on ignition) the steering control buttons worked without doing anything else to the aswc. :)

revival.. im trying to install the axxess aswc-1 in my 13. does anyone have pictures of how they wired it up? the axxess instructions say connect gray/red wire to pin 16. I don't a gray/red wire. also the white pin 5 wire I cut before connect and spliced a wire to body ground, is this correct? any help would be appreciated.

I also have a '13 and i had the ready harness from crutchfield already wired up. so the red and black from aswc-1 are tapped to the red/black on the harness which connects to the factory harness. And i have connected red/grey to pink. The ASWC-1 computer recognizes that I have a sony radio, but does not recognize the vehicle. Not sure what else i need to do. Thanks. |
