Kelvinator's JDM GE8 RS
Kelvinator's JDM GE8 RS
Hi all,
Im Kelvin, a long time lurker but as i have only recently purchased my first Fit i havent been very active.
A couple of months ago after having a 97 BB6 Prelude as the daily driver my partner and I decided to upgrade as the fuel costs of the Prelude were getting out of control. We looked at MANY cars, including Prius, Civics, 1st Gen Fits, and the likes of the Toyota Vitz but between being messed around, and being put off by the horrid GD Fit shudder, we decided to jump on this car.
Its a 2007 Honda Fit RS, only the 91st to roll off the line. Its the 1.5L L15A iVtec engine with the tiptronic CVT transmission.
It is a fantastic car to drive, so great on gas and like a little zippy go kart.
Anyway, heres some pictures. So far, all i have done is give it a clean, put on some kilometers, and fit a band expander to the Japanese stereo (so i can pick up local stations).
We have this for the long haul, so most of the changes we are making will be purely for maintenance and reliability. I am considering replacing the stock steel wheels with some light alloys, but dont want them to look odd as the car will not be lowered. Wider tires would be good, the standard ones are a bit narrow.

Scratching my head over this one. The photos show a later than 2008 GE fit but you describe it like this
Its a 2007 Honda Fit RS, only the 91st to roll off the line. Its the 1.5L L15A iVtec engine with the tiptronic CVT transmission.
And a 2007 will NOT have the iVtec engine.
Either you got the year or the photos and description wrong.

Parts are easy enough to get, just overnight from japan. Honda uses build numbers for everything anyway. Its a Japanese import, so it was first registered in late 2007 in Japan.
All the Fits and Jazzs i have seen here have an EGR valve, i guess they are standard for all. Hate EGR, had issues on my old Accord Euro R with the intake getting blocked from "soot".

The biggest time that comes to mind, of application of next gen tech, was the '08 Bullitt Mustang, getting the exhaust sound piping used in the '10+ mustangs.
That being said, I totally agree with you on how strange it is
Just to clear this up guys, this is a Japanese market Fit, and according to Wikipedia they were first released for sale in October 2007. Being such an early one it was clearly sold late 07.
In the US they didnt start selling until August 2008.
