Coilover install prices?
 

Ok, so its almost time to claim my T1R coilovers (group buy) and i will need to get them installed. How much do you think this should cost with and without an alignment?

So far i have heard $250 w/o alignment from one shop, and $350 with alignment from another. This seems kind of high to me. Anyone have an idea of a reasonable price range?

Also, anyone know a shop in South Florida? preferably Miami:confused:

unfortunately all I can offer is less helpful advice:

spend the 250 on a jack, stands, some wrenches, and some beer for a mechanically inclined friend. spend a saturday afternoon doing it together!

You can do it yourself.

Believe me, I'm the least mechanically inclined man alive (with my Dad being 2nd least) and we did it an afternoon.

I installed springs myself on my fit. It wasn't hard at all. I would not mind helping out.

Installing coilovers is easier than getting laid by Rosie Rotten crotch on Saturday night because you don't have money too buy gas to go over and pick her up because you paid someone else to install your coilovers..

Yea i checked it out and the front end seems like a PITA... i dont have tools and/or a jack...so i was planning on taking it to a shop...

$250 seems a tiny bit high, but not overly outrageous. IMO it's easier than installing springs since you don't have to dissassemble the struts in the front, just R&R the whole assembly. Most shops charge like $80-$150 to install springs, so there you go.

Are they going to level out the car to the height you want if they install them or just throw them on how they are out the box?

I'd spend $100 on tools/jackstands and DIY, you don't even need a spring compressor or air tools since you don't have to disassemble the struts. A basic metric tool set with wrenches and sockets should be just fine. Just use the scissor jack to get the car on jackstands if you don't want to spring for a real jack.

The front is a tiny bit PITA accessing the tophats, but once that's done the rest is super easy.

It's easy. PM me.

The front strut removal process, from the top: one 17mm nut at the top hat, one 14 on the end-link and two more 19s on the knuckle. Then a 19mm nut holding the hat to the strut, wrap in a blanket put your foot on the spring and remove the nut.

You need something to tie up the hub to keep the axles in the diff.. a ratchet, 3 sockets, and 2 allen wrenches, IIRC.

The back is a total of two carriage bolts. One 14 and a 17, unless Im forgetting something...

There is a female FitFreak 45 miles north of here that I know could install coilovers by herself... I helped her with springs but not all that much..

It's nice to see FF members trying to help each other out! I don't think $200 is to much to ask if they were going to align the car as well. Of course DYI is always more satisfying!..and once you buy a few tools they will easily pay for themselves over time.

is the DIY for the RS*R springs the only DIY we have on FF.net? i know its the same concept, but do we have any Coil over DIY's with description and pictures?

There might be the need to remove the top piece on your front struts to use on the coilovers... Other than that everything is covered in the spring swap out threads.... If you have someone helping you or just hanging out and watching, the two of you would surely be able to figure it out... I have had a 13 year old kid lending me a hand on numerous things I have done to a lot of stuff. He will be ahead of me in figuring out how things come apart and go back together...
