Best quiet tire for 2013 Fit base?

Hi all -- I just picked up a 2013 base with no mods and wearing a set of Michelin X Ice winter tires. I'm looking for a new set of all seasons to put on the car in a few months when the snow is gone (I will be keeping the Michelin so winter benefits are not important with the new tires). I want a very quiet tire to minimize cabin noise, plus great wet traction (assuming that any good tire is going to have at least good dry traction). From my research on Tire Rack so far, I'm considering Yokohama Avid Ascend GTs, General Altimax RT43s or maybe Michelin Energy Saver A/Ss (although they don't score as well as the other two). I have also seen several threads on FitFreak that mention Bridgestone Ecopia EP422s as being very good.

Does anyone have any feedback on these tires, or any other recommendations? There don't seem to be many posts on this topic and the ones I've found here are at least a few years old.

Thanks!

I had RT43 on my GD3 and Ascends on my GE8.

I'm going to be honest and say neither were very quiet. Every tire is loud on fits haha

I put these on and I am very happy with traction, noise and price, $400 out the door at Costco when they have the good $130 off sale; plus they come with 3 years road hazard , if you get a flat they come out and change it or tow you free; MICHELIN DEFENDER T+H 185/60R15 84(H) BSW ALL S. Went one size wider and one lower profile, one 1mph lower at 70 mph. Its the widest tire that would fit on the stock rim.

It's a very subjective thing but I found the Fit to be "noisy" in general especially when on the highway. Tires never really seemed to make much of difference. The Defender is suppose to be one of the quieter tires though.

I agree , the Fit is never going to have a quiet, stable and soft ride like a S class Mercedes, thats not its mission, its a econo box ;sub compact with a short wheel base, thin metal and almost no sound proofing. Good for around town, tight parking lots, cheap transportation.

JerrySFL, which tire are you referring to?

I do realize that the Fit will never be "quiet" and all that. I'm really just looking for anything that can contribute to the cause of a slightly quieter car. It makes sense to me that quiet tires might help a bit.

Can anyone else recommend a "quiet" tire?

Apparently the Michelin Defender is not available in my Fit base tire size -- 175-65R-15. I'm in Canada so maybe it's different in the US.

Any other recommendations?

And are Tire Rack's ratings to be trusted, because all three of the tires I was considering are rated as very quiet, especially the new Yokohama Avid Ascend GT.?

Quiet is all a matter of opinion. I find Tire Racks results to be accurate though as they kinda go at it more “scientifically” then a person might do. There are many variables involved in how quiet a tire is for someone. Even with the same exact car.

May want to look into the CONTINENTAL True Contact Tour . This is available at 175/65-15 H- rated . We're considering these or stay with the GENERAL RT-43 H-rated .These have done very well for the '13 FIT . The H give you better handling / cornerning over the T . The sidewall of the H are 2 ply . There's usually a rebate in the spring for GENERAL and CONTINENTAL . Go to their sites for details . The GENERAL's are affiliated with CONTINENTAL . Suggest calling both companies and ask for Tech for more input . Phone numbers can be found at sites .

Thanks Odie. I will definitely check out the Conti TrueContact. What has your experience with the General RT-43s been like? Are you considering something else becuase you found the Generals lacking in some way?

No complaints with the RT43 . The 43s' help the car ride better too . Keep them at 34 > 36 . The low price of the RT43s' ( before rebate ) and the rebate are a bonus as well . We usually order them through Wal-Mart and have them installed elsewhere . May be difficult to part with them .
