Rear Window Camera
 

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm asking here. Do any of you have a dash cam in your rear window? Do you use the front/rear combo, or do you have separate units? I already have a dash cam, so I'd rather not buy another system. I already have 12v available in the hatch area (12 outlet), so I could tap into that wire for power. I'd appreciate any info. I have the Viofo A 119 V2 in the windshield.

I have a dashcam with rear view camera. I put that camera on the inside of the front windshield facing rearwards. I wanted something to capture more of the interior and some of the sides of the car while still facing backwards.

We got one of these for each of our Fits - excellent. Get the one with the GPS, and the mount stays on the windshield, but the camera removes easily. It's small, but has very good reviews. Be sure to get Version 2 (V2) because it's better some how. Also, be sure to get the kind of micro SD card they recommend.

Yes, buy you could buy two. It's a very good quality camera. Reviews I've read have indicated that rear cameras that come in sets are not very good quality. Now how much quality you need for a rear camera is debatable.

i am also looking into mirror dash cams.. they seems to be fairly cheap and all of them comes with rear camera.

There are dashcams designed for parking surveillance with a minimum of 2 cameras. You can go all out with a 4 camera setup. I find that 720p is barely adequate to capture a license plate.

true. i think the camera quality needs to be AT LEAST 1080 at 60FPS.

another thing is that most dash cam sucks when it comes to night vision.

I can't agree with you more!!! 1080p is not overkill it is needed

I much prefer separate units instead of one unit with multiple cameras. Call it redundancy or something. Yes, more wiring mess, but oh well.

I have one forward-facing at the windshield, one rear-facing at the rear window, and another forward-facing unit from the back side, so it sees interior and through the windshield.

Right. I don't like the double-camera kits. The rear camera is usually lower quality. Another possibility is in front facing the passenger compartment. There are swiveling cameras, so if you're stopped by a cop, you can swivel it to cover what's going on.

My wife bought me a mirror cam with a rear camera for Christmas last year. Finally got around to installing it a couple months ago. Overall, I'm happy with it, and it was pretty easy running all the wiring. It is one of the VanTop models you can find on Amazon (the 610). I'd had it on one of my wish lists for a while, and it went on sale from ~$100 to $60. It had a reverse light wire that could be hooked up to throw it into rear camera mode to assist in backing, but since my Fit already had a backup camera, I opted to not connect that. Probably the only complaint I have is the amount of jigglyness it has when you turn off the video feed to use it as a "regular" mirror. Some day I'll probably try putting some memory foam or dynamat or something similar between the camera and the original mirror to see if I can further mitigate the vibration. I did mount the rear camera inside the car to the center child seat anchor point on the ceiling. It is still usable, but the camera view would be useless while in use. I wasn't too worried since this car is my commuter and rarely carries anyone but myself, plus all my kids are older than child seat age now anyway.
