For those who want to use aftermarket, or other oem shift knobs.

Hello guys and gals, i’m not a fan of the stock manual shift knob. It’s too light for me. So i purchased a cheap oem s2000/rsx optional shift knob off ebay. But it doesn’t work right with the stick shifter boot ring. So today i purchased this off ebay to replace the stock shifter boot ring. I’ll post pics up once it arrives.

Please let me know how this works. I put a JDM Fit RS shift knob on mine, and my retainer doesn't work either. It's on there, but there's a small gap.

Installed my used oem rsx type s shift knob today, along with the billet shift boot ring. I must say i like the weight of the shift knob and the feel is nice. On the other hand i’m not thrilled that the boot ring is a gun metal color. Here are some pics.

The fit and feel is nice. So i ordered a brand new knob off ebay since the used one i grabbed was a little beat up, but it was cheap so i could test it without feeling guilty. Heres a link to the new knob i bought

It comes with the plastic clip and boot ring which i might try as the gunmetal color on the aluminum one i bought annoys me. Here is the boot ring i bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/370958984334?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I’ll post pics of the full oem setup once it gets here.

How do you change the boot ring? Did you have to destroy the stock plastic piece?

Nope it takes some wiggling but it pulls out of the stock boot. I didn’t want to take the plastic bezel off the console so i just pulled the stock boot ring out through the top.

So once you pull the plastic boot ring out, how does the new one install? Does it secure to the boot in some way?

Did you see my thread on the knob? In it I have the seller from ebay who I got it from. He was super nice and the shipping was very fast. Just be sure to use the right part number and tell him you want the one with black stitching, not orange or red.

Yes, I messaged him. He never had any for sale, but I knew he sold JDM parts and was reputable. I told him the part I wanted, he took a pic to confirm it was the right one, gave me a price quote, and I paypal'd him. The shipping was crazy fast, like 5 days from Japan to Kentucky.

Thanks. I'm not sure this will work with the JDM knob though, because like the stock Fit knob, it has a black clip built into the knob itself. I'm not sure they would be compatible.

So wait, how did you install the zip tie through the top of the shift boot?

I thought it had to go on the inside of the boot and require taking the whole piece off of the console, but I guess not.

Lol nice. Not bad may have to pick it up. Being double the weight I believe this is a needed mod.
BTW I actually used to live in your area, independence in fact.
But move to FL couple of years ago. Saw you talking about Jeff Wyler Honda were I actually used to work at. Was a tech there for about 2 years. If a tech name Steve is still there he will treat you very well.

You have to take the boot/bezel trim off. unroll the fold at the top of the shift boot. Then insert the ring and zip tie the boot to the ring from the inside. The oem ring is held on the same way.

I’m not interested in the jdm knob, however the oem rsx 6 speed knob includes a black low profile boot ring that accepts knobs with clips.
