Cargo Net installation (fee)

I bought the cargo net and clips for my 2015 Fit LX/CVT online for $49 for both.

But my repair shop (private) estimated $54 to install it, which I thought was high. So I phoned the local Honda dealer service and they quoted $173 to install it. Crazy huh?

Anyone of you have the cargo net installed, and would you mind suggesting what you think I should expect to pay for installation? I don't think it is a 1-hour job, is it?

thanks, Etana

not worth 10 bucks to pay for someone else to install

That install diagram doesnt look accurate to me (i have an EX). There are already hooks at the base of the back seat (visible with the hatch open). Clips in. Fold the rear seats down, remove the headrest, stick the top of the net into the headrest pegs and reinstall headrest. Stand your seats up. Install done. Takes about 2 minutes.

I've seen cargo nets that involved drilling. I've worked places that charged double the book time for accessory installation because 1. Accessory installs are weird and change radically from one model or year to the next, 2. the times can be wildly optimistic and 3. each particular one gets done rarely enough that the average tech isn't going to get smoothly familiar with it.

If you don't want to install it yourself, is it wise to start a bidding war over something to make your car more special and useful to you? Decide if you want to do it. If you don't, then decide who you want working on your car and pay them what they tell you it'll be.
