59.4 In 39 Mile Trip!
 

I just broke my MPG record for over a 20 mile trip! Old record was 54.5 on a trip to Ocala 2 years ago. There were special circumstances tho .. Last night we had a flat and had to put the donut spare on and you should not exceed 50 so coming back from ordering a set of 205-50-16 Extreem Contact DWS Continental tires I kept it under 50. I was really hoping for 60 MPG but even coasting downhill to pull into my driveway I couldn't quite get there. What is your personal best?

52.4 mpg, 76.5 miles .... from san diego to city of irvine

Not to downplay the result, the Honda mpg is highly inaccurate. Top the tank and drive the miles, top the tank again, and you will see it can be off anywhere between 1 and 2.6 mpg optimistic..

54.9 is my highest.

I don't typically keep an eye on just short trips, but focus more on a full tank MPG. That's still very impressive though.

50.2 from Richmond VA to Washington DC.....two springs ago...I was amazed.

We all know that the Honda Fit is really great on gas. That, among other things why I bought it. There is no need to buy a hybrid with two energy sources to complicate the driving experience . Now, has anyone gone 500 miles on a tank of gasoline? I have, 3 times so far.

I inherited my Dad's anxiety genes, so no. At 1/8 tank, I'm freaking. Plus I'm 64, and my bladder has significantly less range anyway.

The best I've done is 274 miles before a fill-up. 39.7 mpg is my best via Fuelly calculations. I average 35.4 but my commute isn't flat, lots of hills.

I am about to head to Costco to put in my first city tank in a 2018 EX 6 speed we bought last week. The first tank, all highway from the Alabama dealer to outside New Orleans, was 41 mpg.

This reminds me of my son's high school physics experiment back in 2012, which was to plot the mileage of our 2009 GE fit 5 speed manual on a stretch of roadway between Belle Chasse and Venice on Louisiana Hwy 23 (basically the last stretch of road between New Orleans and the mouth of the MIssissippi). All were in 5th gear, very flat road, cruise control on, a/c off.

Our refill station was a Conoco that's adjacent to their refinery, and it sells 100% gasoline fuel with no ethanol (not as real-world as I would have preferred, but the next 24 hour gas station up the road was situated in a busy suburban area with many traffic signals). This meant our runs had an exponentially declining fraction of residual ethanol in each tank.

We started at 70 and then did the 61.2 miles down and back (122.4) total, and refilled the tank, dropping the speed by 5 mph for each leg. We got 32 mpg on the first leg, then 36 on the next, at 65 MPH.

At 45 MPH, we were right at 50 mpg. At 40 MPH, we got 52 mpg. The four lane road is typically lightly traveled, but not always; our 35 mph test unfortunately coincided with a shift change at one of the offshore worker demarcation points in Venice, and we were overrun by two-ton 4WD club cab pickups racing home at 80 mph. I put on the flashers and assured my son that "those guys are definitely not getting 50 mpg".

Our last test was 30 MPH in the wee hours, and that took four hours (which is what 122 miles requires at 30 MPH). That last leg was 53 MPG. We skipped the last run at the lowest possible cruise setting (25 mph) and finished up around dawn on a school night. (Or more precisely, I did; my highschooler was asleep for the last 3 runs).

Then the physics teacher was promoted and the first words from his replacement on the project were "No car-based experiments." Fortunately, gIven all the data we collected, we were allowed to be grandfathered in.

EDIT: I just realized that all but 2 of the runs are in my Fuelly data, and I had forgotten we ran out of time on the first day and had to return a few days later. The best we got was 52.42 MPG at 35 MPH.

so at 45 mph, you guys were able to break the 50 mpg barrier. neat!

I think the 40 mph and 30 mph results of an extra 2 mpg and 3 mpg is not worth the trouble (imo)

For me most of the time I just drive..But since I had to take it easy I figured why not see what it would do. Most of the time I avarage 37 to 44 if I ease it around. After I hit the last light I turned it off and really concentrated on keeping the revs below 1800 and down to 1200. Its nice to know ye old Fit will give me close to 50 MPG real world if I do my part..

In the warm weather, I regularly get over 50 MPG on a weekly thirty-mile trip. It's mostly back roads at 40 - 50 MPH. Speed and cold kill MPG.
