Key hole doesn't unlock??
 

Hi all,

New owner, first post, already faced with a flat battery... Im from Australia with a GK5 VTI-L with keyless entry (this may be important)

Had a flat battery last night so the keyless and remote wouldn’t unlock the car of course. Tried to do it manually and could not even unlock the door in any way to get it so i could open the bonnet. I found a diagram online and it seems like the key hole only locks the car but can not unlock? Diagram logic would suggest that if you have keyless then you can only lock the car which doesn't make sense.

I can put the key into the key hole, can turn it clockwise, can lock the car, and that's it. Can't turn it anti-clockwise to unlock or turn it clockwise again to unlock.

Surely i’m doing it wrong or is there no way to get into after a flat?

(I eventually got into the car after waiting long enough for the battery to find enough power to unlock the doors - took about an hour)

That would make no sense, since the whole point of the hidden key is to unlock the car if the electrical system isn't functioning!

US/North American manual I have shows both lock and unlock arrows. Unlock arrows are doubled up for some reason, maybe indicating it takes extra effort.

Also, the manual says, "The built-in key can be used to lock/unlock the doors when the smart entry remote battery becomes weak and the power door lock/unlock operation is disabled."

Thanks for your help! I thought so too it doesn’t make sense but as I dug a bit further I found this in my own physical owners manual… note the bottom where it says not available on all models.

I tried what you suggested but it literally does not turn any other way but to lock the car.

Just wanted to add this note quick.. I have a 2019 EX and just went out and tested locking/unlocking with the key. It worked as shown in saveMT's post. Also, the two arrows mean you tilt the key twice in that direction to unlock the doors, but you only need to tilt the key once to lock the doors. Seems more like a mechanically actuated electrical switch as opposed to a fully mechanical lock/unlock cylinder like on my 1970 Mark III.
