2016 Fit Doesn’t Start- Electrical

Car does not start. Dome lights in Honda Fit 2016 went out. I kinda fiddled with the fuses and the dome lights work but now the car won’t start.
it is locked in gear and the instrument panel is sorta light and flickering. Does nothing when I try to start.

A few start attempts ago it would make wise electrical noises also some clicking, but no start. I don’t get that noise now.
it only gives me a flickering of dashboard lights. Otherwise, does nothing.

Probably electrical as I may have replace a fuse in the wrong place. I have the fuses in the main engine compartment
all proper and in place now, but I don’t get any noise now when I push the start button. The dash lights no longer flash violently as they did before. Also stuck in Park.

No smells, no burning.

Anyway, got the dome light fix but now the car won’t start.

Damned if this 81 year old is not gonna take it to the damn dealer.

Battery good.

Thanks for any ideas. I’m thinking to open the main fuse box next to the battery,
never opened the box before so hope I don’t break the clips or worse.

The starter failing early is a "known" issue, but not sure in your case what the real problem is. The previous owner of my '15 had it replaced at only 43,000 miles, so just an idea to perhaps look into, not a suggestion.

I’m a learner. I clicked on your profile and saw a drop-down list for view my post which I did. Thank you, sir. I’ll be going out and checking under my hood around the starter for possible vermin eating away on my rubber parts. It cost nothing to check and more than once has been the correct answer. Thanks guy.

I have a 2016 EX and it too has been exhibiting similar behavior for the past several months. I replaced the battery (Interstate 51R) a few months ago and that seemed to do the trick. But then it started acting up again. Then cleaned a dirty battery terminal (red) and tightened, and again that seemed to do the trick. But just yesterdady, after Valvoline tested the relatively newer battery, they showed it was less than 'good'. Later that afternoon the flickering returned, and this morning it failed to turn the motor on first attempt.

Also, occasionally get a brief grinding noise on start (but I think that is when it actually starts (mostly?) without issue. I have read elsewhere that the grinding noise can be a common symptom of a failing starter. However, it sounded very similar to the failing timing chain tensioner Honda replaced a couple of years ago under 'Goodwill' warranty.

Anyhow, I'm increasingly convinced it is a failing starter, or whatever directly related to starter. O'Reilly's (San Diego) has a starter for about $400. Can't imagine how much professional mechanic would would charge, let alone Honda dealer.

If your battery is tested less than good:
1. Battery is going bad?
2. Alternator is not keeping the battery charged.
3. You have a parasite draw somewhere

Try jump-starting your car, if it starts fine, then you can rule out the starter. If you think it is a starter, search the forum, a few users were buying aftermarket starter for like $75 off Amazon and it worked for them. Else, look it up on Rockauto. Good luck..
