Apparently the last Fits failed miserably on the offset crash test so the 15 is supposedly redesigned to address that. Has anyone heard or know when new tests will be done?

That statement could not be further from the truth. The previous Fit aced every one of the dozen or so safety test thrown at it until this past year when they invented a new test called the "offset" crash test. The fit, and every other small car on the market, failed this newly devised test. This test was not around when the 2009 Fit was designed. But Honda feels confident that the new Fit will ace this test as well as all the others the old fit did so well in.

You are correct TCroly, I was just looking that up. The offeset crash was the failure. With those facts aside any clue when the new test would be done or is it at the discretion of the automaker?

I am going to go back and rephrase my original post. Thats for bring that to my attention!

But Honda does their own testing as well....

I realize who does it but curious when. Is there a schedule when it has to be done or is it when they can deliver the vehicles for testing.

Sr45, do you know if honda has done any testing on this model yet?

Of course they've done testing. You think they'd launch the car in Japan as start mass production for North America before doing crash tests?

amen, Toyota today announced they have recalled 13 million cars this year and have at least two recalls they haven't announced.

Well considering the test began in 2010 apparently, they continued to make subsequent models for 3 mores years. So yes, i think they would.

My co-worker pointed out some offset crash videos, and how he thought some cars had been designed to pass that exact test. ie, move the crash 2" over and it would have been entirely different, rather than glancing off to the side.

In this day that would not surprise me a bit. There is so much deceit going on by so many people to advance someone else it is ridiculous. :-(

Passing the test with the offset at one measurement is still better than passing it at none.

Cars are naturally designed to conform to certain standards, whether generated by the manufacturer or by an outside agency. It would be unrealistic to expect the older Fit to conform to the offset test as that test didn't exist when the vehicle was designed. I expect that Honda has done whatever was needed to make the newer design pass the test.
