Roadside Assistance with HondaCare on all your Honda's
When I bought my GK, I opted to buy HondaCare.
Now I knew the 2015's came with roadside assistance as part of the standard warranty, but today I received a letter from HondaCare that stated because I bought HondaCare, now ALL the Honda's in my household (mine and my family members) will get roadside assistance because I have HondaCare. You just have to go online and register the cars on the website. So I signed up my mom's '11 Accord Coupe, dad's '10 Ridgeline, and stepbro's SI. Not a bad deal. We'll probably never use it, but cool to have just in case. |

It was like $1400 for 7 year, 80,000 mi.
Being a new model, in a new factory, and with the cvt, i figured I better. And I can always cancel it later. |

If you drive a typical 15,000 miles per year, you're going to be beyond the mileage limit of Hondacare about four months into the first year after the factory warranty runs out. Invest that money at 5% and you'd have $2000 in your own pocket after 7 years. A repair would therefore have to cost that much within that time window to make Hondacare worthwhile. Not very likely to happen. Roadside service? Get AAA and it covers you, not the car. You can use it for any car you are in, even a friend's car. |
I drive much less than that.
And HondaCare covers much more than drivetrain. It covers everything the 3 year/36,000 new car warranty does. So electronics, interior stuff, etc... We'll see how it goes. I can always cancel it without much loss. |

USE THIS TACTIC IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO PURCHASE A HONDA FIT. |
My fear is that, once signed up, the dealer will make it nearly impossible to cancel. I've been stung by this sort of tactic.
"Only the manager can issue refunds (and he's not in today)," paperwork is "lost," "mistakes" are made, etc. Lots of tactics can be used to discourage people from cancelling. |

The only catch for me was that I didn't receive the refund directly. The dealer stuck the sentinel service charge into my financing, which meant the money was turned into a "security deposit" on my lease, and I will get it back when I turn the car in. Annoying, but I understand that this what happens with the finance guy gets creative and sticks things into the lease numbers. |
How could the HondaCare premium be a deposit on an existing lease that is only refundable at the end? That sounds like sort of dealer shenanigans that I was worried about. Sounds like they wanted to put the money someplace where they still have a chance of getting it.
And, how long is the lease to make HondaCare viable at all? |

And, how long is the lease to make HondaCare viable at all? Had the deal been arranged in such a way that the lease contract was silent on the sentinel service, and I instead contracted for the service separately, I would've had a check a few days after canceling. Hopefully that makes sense. Bottom line, if you are within the 60 day period, you should be able to get a 100% refund (assuming you didn't need any service). If its outside the 60 day window, then they will prorate the refund. Just call Honda Care directly and ask them to send you the cancelation form. The literature indicates that you should get the cancellation form from your dealer, but you can bypass that. |
The buying and then cancelling stuff to get a better showroom deal sounds to me like it might be made up. The high margin add ons are things the dealers love to sell, especially the sales managers, but if you bargain for the lowest price of the car first and then have them add stuff that you will "return" for refund, it only gets you back to the price you negotiated.
If the dealer drops the price of the car purportedly as an incentive for you to buy the high margin add on items (items that the dealer is perfectly aware you can return for a refund) then you simply hadn't finished negotiating to the dealers lowest price. I always ask the cursory question "if I buy this stuff, how much will you drop the price of the car," and the answer when I have asked has been "we've already discounted the car as much as we are going to." I realize someone can easily say "yeah but it worked for me," which is why it's so easy for me to also say it MIGHT be a made up story. |
I paid $1,200 for the 7 year, 80,000 mile warranty. This price included wheel locks, splash guards, all weather mats and cargo tray. After the amount of money I put into my last car post warranty, I feel comfortable with this.

Probably a little late for the people here but Saccucci Honda is the place to go for Honda Care Warranty. Extremely reputable. Check them out through google. Sell for cost. Honda rewards them for quantity sold. I get no kickback from this but got ripped off once myself. The dealer denied you could get it online. It is my 3rd now.

Thanks for this price quote, I was curious how much it was going to be. I will say though, we bought it for our '13, decided to cancel and it's had to be towed twice...

HondaCare cost
When purchasing a new Fit, you need to do your homework and shop Honda dealers online for the best HondaCare Extended Warranty prices. I did just that and my local Honda dealer, where I purchased our new Fit, honored the online price I had found. I purchased 8yr/120,000 mile for $1065. If your local dealer won't honor the online discount price, just purchase it thru the online Honda dealer giving you the best quote. Good Luck

Does anyone know the fee for repurchasing an extended care plan after cancelling once?

The plan was rolled into financing so it was applied to principal. I read somewhere last year, I don't know which Honda forum it was on, but some who bought the plan when they bought their car ended up cancelling and repurchasing from Sacucci. They mentioned a fee for cancelling once, but I don't remember what it was.
