Honda misreported air bag failures?

The allegation was made in this short podcast.

The recall may eventually involve 20-30 million cars.

"Meanwhile there are other troubling complications with these recalls. A third-party audit is attempting to determine if Honda's reporting of injuries and fatalities was faulty."

I wonder if our 2015 Fits have these air bags?

It doesn't yet. However it sounds like this thing could widen, if you listen to the short podcast.

Here's Honda's recall page which includes a statement on the airbag recall: link

And here's the NHTSA page on the airbag recall: link

Other than the Honda Element (2003-2011 models), the newest Honda currently listed for the recall is a 2007 model. The Fit is currently not on the list.

Broaden your horizons. This recall is not just related to Honda. It affects alot of other manufacturers that used Takata products.

The problem is with Takata manufactured air bag assemblies. While many manufacturers use Takata bags its not been published tat Honda is. If you are really concerned you'll have to perform the delicate task of exposing your air bags to see who made them. Right now only a recycle yard, body shops and some dealers would know if Takata bags were used.

BMW, Ford, Chyrsler, Honda, and Toyota are part of the manufacturers getting air bags from Takata. Though Honda was listed in the NHTSA report in June no specific models were listed in the current Automotive News followup. Honda began issuind recalls in late June so if you haven't got a notice you're car is not one from Takata.
And yes, it looks like more than 20 million cars will be involved. Think of the crazy that will happen when owners are notified to park their cars til they get replacement igniters. The NHTSA is taking more heat sfor slow reaction but you can see why.
