Help..Foggy/Sweaty Driver's Side Window
 

Perhaps 40 years ago I would be kind of proud for fogging up the windows of my car...now (?) not so much. I JUST drove my '15 Fit LX home...about 165 miles and here are the clues, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has an answer:
1) Yes, its cold outside, about 22 degrees.
2) I tried every combination, I think, of air controls on the dash I could think of....
3) Passenger side didn't fog up (very much)
4) Driver's side fogged, then beaded with 'sweat'
5) I'd lower the window, remember, its 22 degrees outside, then quickly move them back up. Fog gone, sweat now rivulets of water.
6) I turned the heater on, pointed the vents over, used "Blow in Your Face" and "Defrost"...neither was too effective.

Question: Other than putting an old t-shirt in the passenger seat to dab/wipe the window, anyone else come up with a 'fix'. Love my fit, not so much the portal I'm staring out for cars approaching up on my left. Thanks!:nod:

Preemptive use of defrost helps. So does getting window visors and cracking the window. And taking off clothes. Wait a second...

It really helps to have the air coming in from outside and not on recirculate. We learned that last winter with our '13. I also learned this summer that whenever the defrost setting is used (front or front and feet) the A/C compressor will also kick on to help in removing the fog. It turns on even if the A/C button isn't on.

Have you installed the visors w/the 3M tape?
 

Do the Visors attached w/the 3M tape remain visors or do they fly off like the shingles on my roof? Taking off my clothes is an excellent idea...said nobody (including my wife) ever.

I have found this to be true of all cars especially smaller ones. My Accord manual mentions it but I have not yet picked up my Fit yet, the 19th :hyper:, to read the manual.

I made a 825 mile trip in my Fit this past weekend, which started out with a dusting of snow on the ground (24°F) and once far enough South, turned to light/moderate rain until the last hour or so (45°).

The windshield did tend to fog up quite easily, but I eventually found the right balance with the controls set to defrost/feet and the temp about in the middle setting (where blue changes to red). That kept the glass clear without me being too hot or cold.

I have found that if you crack the sunroof or a window and switch the A/C lever to fresh air, the pressure difference will cause some air to blow through the vents (I made a thread about this but it seems like it's common knowledge). What I also found though was that if you switch the thermostat to hot, the air from the vents will be hot (I guess it comes from the engine compartment?). Then you can switch it to the defrost setting and direct that hot air to your windshield. This all works with the fan on "Off."

I live in Florida though so I don't know anything.

The driver's window fogs up most because you're the main source of moisture in the car.

Most effective for me in keeping it clear is to use defrost setting and open the little side vent next to the cupholder on the side of the dash, directing airflow to the side widow. At least on the GE8's, these vents are always active no matter what mode the HVAC is in (assuming they are open). Definitely have the control set to outside air (not recirculate) or you'll just be circulating the moisture around the car.

When it's below freezing, the AC won't operate even in defrost mode. The AC evaporator needs to be above freezing (and it's before the heater core, I believe) so that any moisture that condenses out won't just freeze on the evaporator and block things.

Sometimes it is helpful to keep a rag or towel handy.

Just keep it on fresh and not recirc. No need for visors and open windows!!

This was NOT a problem with the 2010, but is very annoying in the 2015. I have used the settings as directed in the manual, but the windows continue to fog through out my 25 mile commute, unless I have a window cracked open. Other 2015 Fit drivers in my acquaintance are not having this problem. I'll be scheduling a visit to the shop soon.

I never use recirculate air unless there's heavy dust or smoke outside, I see a dead skunk ahead, or it's so hot outside the AC can't cool incoming air enough. And I usually use the defrost + floor setting in the winter.

But let's face it, if you're looking left, waiting for an opening to make a right turn, you're breathing on the cold window inches away. I use the forearm of my jacket, from elbow to wrist, to wipe the driver's window. Once I'm looking ahead again, it clears up.

A properly working system is designed to keep the windows clear, it is not doing that.

This was the fix for me, using the outside air.

I'm heading 'on the road' again. Thanks for all the ideas/suggestions. I'm going to go through them this afternoon!
