Alternative Fasteners for Underbody Panel?

I am wondering if anyone has a great idea for an alternative fastener on the underbody panel (the one that you remove for oil changes). As has been discussed, the existing screws/cheap metal clips is less than ideal and they are annoying to remove and replace.

I was thinking maybe a cotter pin, but then I thought that could rip out if they were protruding down under the care and got snagged on anything. I plan to go wander around the hardware store and see what I can find, but any ideas are appreciated!

Here's a pretty good idea:

Yup, I have one, but not as pretty as that!

However, the mod pictured on the Audi has a loop attached to the fastener which folds out so you can turn it without tools. This is the best way to go for the underengine panel.

The big concern is whether the Dzus spring is securely attached to the panel behind. If it comes adrift it is very difficult to remove the dzus fastener. Luckily, the Fit panel requires a very light-duty fastener.
