GK Fit timing belt or chain ?
Hey all,
Just reading through owners manual, in the warranty book on page 8 it states; '*timing belt, balancer belt and tensioner (if equipped)' I know on my old gd3 it is a timing chain. I can't see them using a timing belt on this motor. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks! |
Timing chain. No timing belt to worry about!

That's what I figured, I never was a fan of belts.
Thanks for reply! |
This info (chain on Gen3 Fit) is good to know!
Timing belt seems becoming a thing of yester years which is a good thing. Many of today's cars come with a timing chain now. I think this trend started in mid 2000's with popular engines like Toyota's 2.4L (Camry, RAV4, etc.) and Honda's 2.4L (Accord, CRV, etc.) after using belt for almost some 20+ years. |
I'm really glad to read this. One reason I preferred my 4-cyl Kia Rondo engine to the 6-cyl was that the four had a chain while the six had a belt.
|
Good know its a chain and not a belt. I would assume though that the engine is still an interference motor. With a chain its less likely to fail rather than a belt.

Are there any makers out there still using timing belts?? I thought most stopped using them around 2005 or so

A good example is that all current Honda cars with 3.5L V6 (Pilot, Accord, Odyssey, etc.) still uses the timing belt. |
I believe the Honda Gold Wing motorcycle still uses timing belts.

Timing chains are def a nice piece of insurance.
|
The 2009 Rondo with the 6 cyl had a belt. Probably the Optima as well, since the Rondo was based on it.
|
Ford use timing belt on their Fiesta, a major competitor of the Fit, as well.
