So, I put my garage door opener on my visor and started to notice that the metal clip was cutting into my head board.

I noticed that I had three blank slots where my VSA button was so I went to my local honda dealership and ordered part # 35300-T2A-A01 which was the VSA button.

After getting the button only took me a little bit to figure out how to take it apart and which two pins where bridging when I pressed the button.
Below are the pictures of what I did if you want HI-RES pics I can link to a shared Dropbox or something but only if people ask.


-Here is the garage door opener I used and the VSA button I ordered


-Found that the pins with the red circle are bridged when the button is pressed



-To remove the green insert need to pop the clips to get it out, there is a spring in there
So don't lose it.

-I kind of trashed the traces a bit but it's fine as there is plenty of trace left to solder


-Used some wire from and OLD PC build to solder onto the board and added
hot glue to secure the wire


-VSA button with Part number if you want to order it's about $15 bucks



-Need to desolder these two points to remove the LED board or if you want to
figure out how to power them you could leave them


-This is the top view where the two pins that bridge can be soldered



-I used the soldering iron to heat the three pins not used and pushed them through and
decided to run my wire through the hole



-This is where I added solder for the wire


-Wire pulled through and soldered to bridge points



-Added hot glue to secure and protect from grounding


-Also added glue to the back of the insert to keep the wires secure


-What it looks like finished before painting over the VSA icon with plasti dip



-Took apart the switch to paint the front button


-Used a 200 grit sandpaper to remove the imaged then painted


-Wanted to make a quick disconnect so in the spirit of saving money and DIY
used molex plugs from a power supply pig tail


-removed the unneeded wires and added hot glue inside the molex to secure the wire
(not needed just wanted to be safe)


-Just an image of them connected


-Completed button with paint and new pig tail


-cut a hole in the opener rubber button to pull the wire through and connected
the molex and tested WORKING



-I reached my hand up from the back side and squeezed
the release tabs to remove the blank


-Blank removed



-Button installed and pig tail hanging down before tucking it up in the dash



-Secured the Garage door opener using a zip tie on the driver side dash brace

i usually just get the gentex mirrors with homelink for cars parked inside the garage.
cars parked outdoors, i dont keep a garage door opener in there for security reasons.

 

I wanted to get the Honda Home link from an older accord but was worried I wouldn't have enough room in the head liner so decided to go this route. I was also trying to spend as little money as possible and use old parts I had laying around, only thing I paid out of pocket for was the button.

Thanks, I've been wanting to do it for a long time and glad I did it's working great. A friend at work got a fit too and he is going to order the button so I can do it for him too

 

Also, depending on how the gentex mirror with home link gets it's power, the mirror only works with the key on. Have experienced that with Subaru cars (port install mirror) and been annoyed about it until realizing the perspective of a non garaged car...

 

That was one of the other reasons I didn't want to do the OEM honda link was trying to fish wire down the A-pillar or trying to figure out which wire I could tap into without breaking something

I agree, all the features they offered and not one of them was Home link which has been an option on so many of their older models.

As an update- The garage door opener has been working awesome ever since doing this little project. Was hoping to see others want to do it, but so far nada. Although, I have had a bunch of friends with other model cars asking if I can do it for them on theirs.

 

Thanks for the tutorial and pictures. I am looking to use the factory switch to toggle aftermarket footwell lights. The VSA switch is momentary right? I would want it to click in and stay in so the lights stay on so I don't think this switch will work for me unless I wanted to hold the button in while I drive LOL.

If anybody knows of rocker switches that fit in the blank switch plates please let me know.

 

This mod is on my list but I'll wait until after winter. I, too, am looking for a SPST momentary switch that looks natural with the Fit. The ons I can find have a chromed single arm.

 

Awesome mod. Unfortunately for me, I park in my machine shed which has an industrial opener (three buttons) that's not homelink compatible.

Look for an optional Fog switch for a base model. They had them for the GD, might be worth a look.

this is true. but then one can power the mirror using a simple 9v battery after cutting the wire as memory is not cleared.. and walla ur garage door is breached..

Looks great! Did you ever consider just retrofitting a homelink unit into the headliner or sunvisor, maybe even one of those rear view mirrors that have the homelink built into it?
