There's a Cicada in my Engine?
That's what it sounds like anyway. I just got a new '15 and I've noticed there's a definite cicada-like buzzing coming from the engine compartment (aside from transmission gear noises) under gas and tied to RPM. It's sometimes louder than the rest of the engine.
Wondering if anyone else has this... Just noisy injectors/plugs? It's annoying me. |
You're most likely hearing the direct injection, the system makes a clicking noise.
|
It's probably the normal sound of a direct-injection engine. There is a buzzy/rapid-click sound to it. Get in a parking garage or something, windows down/radio off, and coast with no throttle. You'll hear the change.

This isn't my first car exactly, these are really loud, or maybe just the rest of the engine is quiet. I don't know. I never picked up on this sound sitting in the driver's seat before in any other car. Yeah, in the engine compartment, but not while driving, even windows down.
What gives? |
Direct injection. It's a big part of what gives you the MPGs.
