Which factory?

The salesman told me my 2016 Fit was made in Japan because it has a J in the VIN number.
Is there a difference in Fits made in different countries?
I don't know where else they make them.
Just wondering.
So far I love it.

US sold FITS are made in either Japan or Mexico.

This article has a list of country codes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicl...#Country_codes

For the GK fits, a '3' as the first VIN character indicates Made in Mexico; a 'J' indicates Made in Japan.

But I was wondering if there is any quality difference between the two.

Probably not, but I'm sure other posters will disagree. My Mexican Fit has been flawless.

The location *should* not matter (the assembly processes is just as "designed" as the car is, and parts and tools all follow the same tolerances, etc.), but anywhere something can be done to "human tolerance" or where the engineering design was poor, it's possible to have problems.

My '00 New Beetle TDI was Hecho en Mexico, and while I kept it 12 years and 219K miles (and it's still running strong in the hands of the guy who bought it from me three years ago), it was one of the worst cars I've owned from a reliability standpoint (engineering design, not assembly quality). The '13 Beetle TDi that succeeded it was just as bad (again due to poor engineering design), and I traded it after only 18 months for my Fit, which has had no issues other than the CVT recall, which was not causing any drivability issues to start with.

That said, others have definitely had quality issues with the Fit, so as always, YMMV.

You've not been in a Lexus have you.

It's luck of the draw. So far my Passion Berry Pearl has been perfect.
