2016 LX: question about map light

Hi, new owner here. Reading the 2016 owners manual, the section on interior lights shows the two front map lights with a switch in-between. (this switch is shown to have an "on" position and a "door activated" position). There is no indication of differences between LX or EX here.

However, it is clear from older models that the LX does not have this switch. My 2016 LX does not have this switch either.

So, despite the manual being unclear, is it true that the LX's map lights can not be set to a door activated mode?

I'm looking at the owners manual - p.144 on Interior Light Switches.

For the first illustration, there is an asterisk for Front*, with the footnote "Not available on all models." Perhaps it should be "Not available on any models."

On my LX, the microphone for the head unit Bluetooth feature is located between the map lights. So the illustration in the manual is not accurate, at least to the LX.

I wonder if the inclusion of the microphone just didn't make it to the owners manual for whatever reason. Perhaps the company outsourcing the head unit didn't get their specs in on time. Or perhaps Honda didn't have the interior layout completely finished when they compiled the owners manual.

At first thought, I assumed this function was available on the LX and EX. As was stated in the previous post, there is an asterick near the photo of the front profile that denotes "Not available on all models". Perhaps, this exclusion applies to the LX.

On my Canadian EX model, my map lights are as in the pic above.

Yes, that is the EX pictured, and the "not available on all models" appears to refer to the LX.

Ah, I see.

I also realize now I was looking at the "Owner's Guide" and not the full-fledged manual. In the guide, the asterisk is missing. I guess that's why it's RTFM and not RTFG...

I was hoping this feature was accessible to the LX through some magical hidden switch. Oh well, one more thing on my list to mod :)

Thank you for the clarification everyone. We're still in the break-in period so it definitely is still a honeymoon right now.

You probably already know this, but you can make the map lights come on with the dome light by running a single wire between the two lights. Other threads have details. Did my 2016 LX last week.

My 2015 EX has this, so it must be an LX/EX difference.

Greendog 04-04-2016 04:48 PM

Yes, I didn't see this in the LX vs EX thread, but it definitely is a difference.

And yes, I was looking at all the various mods for the map light. I'm guessing a one wire solution means the map light mirrors the behavior of the dome light. However, I believe one will lose the ability to turn the map light on by pressing the lens... am I correct?

Maybe a solution is to purchase the EX map light housing with the "on/off/door activated" switch. I'd have a sunroof slider button that wouldn't do much though :)

EDIT: Oops, looks like I didn't think this through correctly. If the interior lights are set up like the GE, then one wire is all I need. GE map light mod

Yep, that was the video I used as a guide. It's not necessary to tap into the wires, though. On the top of both light assemblies, there are some metal electrical pathways that run in grooves. I gently lifted the right pathway out of its groove, wrapped the end of the wire around the bar, and pressed the bar back into the groove. No stripping, no soldering.

Cool tip, thanks! I think this plus changing the bulbs out with LEDs will head my list of todos.

As an aside, in the manual I did find a picture of the U.S. LX-trim map lights with the mic in-between the two lights. It's on pg247 in the section describing HFL. Well, at least it's somewhere in the manual :)
