3rd Gen DRL's
 

Hey there new to this forum and my fit. Was wondering how to disable the DRL's without pissing the rest of the car off? Anyone do this on the 3rd generation yet?

U pull #25 fuse in the fuse box under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. #25 only affects the DRL's.

On the DRLs, I had the same question, why would you want to disable them?

Depends, if you are running HID retrofit then they wouldn't work with DRL and a blinking light would appear on your dashboard. Also, some people don't like having their lights on during the day. Matter of choicel

Also, it is polite in some instances, to be able turn off lights. Ferry terminal & loading, parking in front of restaurants with windows facing parking lot etc,etc,etc.

"analysis found that DRLs have no statistically significant overall effects . . ."

So.....is it recommended to pull that fuse and run w/o the lights?

I recommend it. It takes all of 5 seconds, and then just run with your parking lights or headlights if you want lights on. It'll turn on your rear lights too.

I did it because I had HIDs in before, and it would cause a humming sound from the low input when my DRLs were on. Thus, I always had my headlights on, and I wanted to avoid any issues. But since I removed my HIDs, I just run with parking lights and it looks cooler, in my opinion.

Some of us might be fitting the car with LED DRLs. In that case, we might want to disable the headlamp DRLs.

You CAN start the Fit without the DRLs coming on, as long as the parking brake is engaged when you start the car.


I call this the "Drive-In movie feature". You can start the car and run the engine to work the heat or A/C without annoying anyone watching the movie.

Fair enough, I don't drive enough at night to justify that sort of expense, but the OEM lights work well enough for most needs. LEDs do look good though.

Do the DRL come on when you release the parking brake? Will have to experiment with this over the weekend.

Yes, as soon as you release the brake they will turn on.

Pulled the fuse. Accomplished my goal thank you. I hate DRL's is my number one reason for wanting them gone. I leave my lights in auto. Aaaaaand I ordered LED's for Hi/low and Fogs...

make sure you notify your insurer that you disabled the lights. it will affect your premium. you do not want to give the insurance company an excuse for not paying claims (I work for an insurance company). also bare in mind if you are in an accident the fact that you disabled the daytime running lights could be used against you in a civil law suit.

Good luck getting your eyeballs into a position where you can use them to see the fuse; good luck getting your eyeballs into a position where you can use them to see the sticker under the steering wheel which shows you the location of the fuses in the fuse box, along with what each fuse is for. Why they put the sticker in that crazy-ass spot is beyond me. It would have been so easy to have put the fuse box on a "leash" so that you can pull it out from behind the dash and look at it with your head in a comfortable position. All they would have had to do is add about 10 inches to the length of the existing wires going to the back of the box, add some way to clip and unclip the box from its location under the dash, and make sure there was some space where the extra 10 inches of wire could be tucked in when the fuse box was clipped into its location under the dash.
