where's yours made?

I'm just curious...

I didn't plan on getting the FIT EX, I had planned on looking at the CRV touring for the wifey. (MEXICO I believe :eek3:) But when I read the sticker on the window of the fit after they removed the wraps and parked it, I decided to get it if I can get the EX under $19K. Long story short...I got fit and the CRV EX-L.

over the years, I've owned a dozen or more "Asian" vehicles/trucks and not all were problem free. The only cars I can remember that had very few issues and/or no recalls, were the cars/trucks made/built in JAPAN. Made in Mexico and mainland built cars (nissan, toy, mazda, and honda) are a different story..

That's good to hear since the our CRV was built there, but I could be wrong.

btw, It's only been a month, but I'm really liking this 1.5 Fit. This little banger is getting 34.5 and I don't take the freeways to work!!!

Made in Japan in October 2015. Bought mid January 2016. No issues - very happy with it.

Mexico, build date Jan 2015, purchased May 2015. No surprises, no real complaints. Not in love with the rough suspension or the road noise but I knew about that going in.

Made in Japan in January 2016, purchased end of April. Love our little LX, what a fantastic car for the money!

Proudly Hecho en Mexico. Other than the CVT programming and inner door bracket recalls (both resolved quickly and with no dealer issues), it's been a fun 40K miles so far.

Our 1990 Civic hatch actually left me stranded on the side of the road (ignitor failed, a "silent warranty" item), so it wasn't exactly a complete paragon of reliability despite being 日本製. Miles better than the US brands I had driven previously, though!

Back in the day, 60K out of a car was doing good, especially in "salt belt" areas of the US. You can pretty much expect 200K out of almost *any* car today as long as you maintain it (and wash the undercarriage frequently in the Winter!).

I was getting an oil change for my CR-V at my Honda dealer last Friday when, out of curiosity, I went to look at the new 2016 Fits for sale on the lot. All of them -- and there were about seven -- were made in Japan. I was surprised; I wondered if Honda stopped making Fits in Mexico because of the quality-control problems it was having there?

By contrast, all of the HR-Vs on the lot (again, about seven) were made in Mexico.

Did Honda perhaps reorient its Mexico plant to produce only HR-Vs?

Yes, the announcement was made about a year ago, all Fit production shifted to Japan and the Mexico plant supposedly makes HRVs exclusively.

The 2016 Fit LX and EX are made in Japan. They moved the production over. For some reason the EX-L is made in Mexico, most likely due to the cost of the leather and installation.

Having owned an Accord made in Japan, it really makes no difference where the car is assembled. My Accord had tons of issues (all known to Honda so was fixed at no cost) including transmission, airbags, ignition, etc. It comes down to the manufacturing and design of the parts which are typically a combination of made in Japan, Mexico and US. The sticker at the dealer gives the breakdown.

Wait so did you end up getting the Fit EX? There was a dealer who was trying to sell me one at rock bottom prices so my guess is that the 2017's must be moving in soon. His quote for the base price was $17.4K but I had my heart set on an EX-L and didn't want to contend with aftermarket installation of the leather and heating elements.
